- Footage appears to show a 'tense' moment between the two Spanish royals
- The footage was taken during Easter Mass at Palma Cathedral in Mallorca
- Princess Leonor appears to shove her mother and grandmother's hands off her as they both try to take her hand on the way out of the service
- Marie Chantal of Greece has since weighed in to the controversy on Twitter
It seems that even royals have trouble with their in-laws on occasion as seen in new footage of the Spanish monarchs.
A video has emerged that appears to show a tense moment between Queen Letizia and her mother-in law during the Spanish royals' annual Easter break in Majorca.
Queen Sofia looked every inch the proud grandmother as she put her arms round her granddaughters' Leonor, 12, and Sofia, 10, ready to pose for pictures at the Palma Cathedral on Easter Sunday.
But the clip appears to show an awkward exchange between the former Queen, 79, and the reigning Letizia, 45.
The former newsreader is seen standing in front of Sofia and after a brief exchange appearing to try and take the arm of her eldest daughter, who then shoves both her mother and grandmother's hands aside.
Letizia's husband King Felipe VI then steps in as his 80-year-old father looked on nonplussed.
Marie Chantal of Greece, who is married to Crown Prince Pavlos - King Felipe's cousin - has since weighed in, saying on Twitter: 'No grandmother deserves that type of treatment! Wow she’s shown her true colours.'

In another tweet, she asked: 'What is the Spanish press saying? This is so awful.'
Appearing to stir things up even further, she then posted a photo of a family gathering with her own parents, captioned: 'Happy grandparents! Family is what it’s all about.'
The footage was captured on Sunday at the end of Easter mass but only started to make waves in Spain on Tuesday as the video emerged.
Several Spanish papers including island daily Diario de Mallorca had no hesitation in branding the incident a 'uncomfortable'.
It said: 'As is obvious from the footage, the situation was most uncomfortable for King Felipe VI, who tried to mediate as his father looked on with great surprise.'
Respected Spanish daily El Mundo said: 'For the first time in four years, Juan Carlos joined the rest of the Spanish Royal Family for the celebration of the last day of Easter.
'However, the perfect harmony they demonstrated at the doors of Palma Cathedral appears not to have been so, certainly at one particular moment.'
El Pais described what happened as a 'tense scene.'
The MailOnline has contacted the Casa De Su Majestad El Rey for a comment.
On Tuesday King Juan Carlos of Spain led his family in marking the 25th anniversary of his father's death.
Juan Carlos, 80, was joined by wife Queen Sofia, 79, and their children for a mass honouring his father Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona, who died in April 1993 at the age of 79.
Juan Carlos' son King Felipe, 50, who took the throne after his father's abdication in 2014, attended the service with his wife, Queen Letizia, 45.
The service was held on Tuesday in El Escorial, the historic royal site where Infante Juan is buried.
