He recently spoke of the 'surreal' moment he enjoyed a private reception with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

And now James Martin has revealed he bonded with Her Majesty over their shared love of dogs.

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine on Wednesday, the TV chef recalled the 'pinch yourself' moment he sat down for lunch with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh four years ago.

He told stand-in host Christine Lampard: 'We just sat there talking about corgi dogs, and it's weird because I love my dogs so you're just sat there, and it's very surreal.

'I remember walking out of there. The first person i called was my mother and I said, 'You're never going to believe what's happened.' It was just an amazing experience.'

He gushed: 'It was a real pinch yourself moment. Clearly Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay were busy that day, and I got the invite. It was amazing, a phenomenal experience.'

Last week, Martin told the Daily Mail's Sebastian Shakespeare of his surprise at being invited for an intimate royal lunch.

'I presumed it was a 300-seater reception job,' he revealed. 'But when I got there, it was just six for lunch in the dining room — the Queen, Prince Philip, me and three others.

'What on earth was a farmer's boy from the moors doing having lunch with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh? Then things got even stranger.

'One of Her Majesty's staff whispered to me that the Queen felt she hadn't had the chance to have a proper conversation with me, so I was invited to another room after lunch for a chat. It was just me and the Queen — one to one — for about an hour. It was the most surreal moment of my life.'

Speaking on the chat show on Wednesday morning Martin, 45, also unveiled plans to embark on a new road tour later this year.

Each show his On The Road Again tour will be immersive and include cooking demonstrations, appearances from special guests and input from regional chefs in each area.

The chef, who first toured in 2016, said he is excited to return to the stage and that he 'was absolutely blown away by the reception' last time around.

He also shocked Christine with the revelation that his hugely popular cookery show, Saturday Morning, is cooked in his home - not in an ITV studio as most viewers believe.

'I get complaints about people saying the dogs are in my studio but it's actually my house,' he laughed..

'It's my house - what am I going to do with the dogs, lock them away?'
