  • The racy show was given nods in Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment category for Stormzy's cameo and the Reality And Constructed Factual catergory

Fans swarmed the microblogging site to pen notes of shock, delight and fury following the announcement that the racy show was tipped in Virgin TV’s Must-See Moment category for Stormzy's cameo and Reality And Constructed Factual.

The show's host Caroline Flack was quick to delight in the news yet others were less happy as one user wrote: 'why the f**k would you give an award to a shitty show like that??', amid the nod for the show which saw on-screen sex and mass fights.

Love Island has been recognised following following the enormous and highly unprecedented success of its third series in 2017, after returning to screens in 2015 as a rebooted version of the 2005 programme.

The inclusion represents a boost for ITV2 after the show broke audience viewing figures for the channel, with 4.2 million tuning in to watch Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay crowned winners in July last year.

Delighted reactions came from some, who wrote: ' And Love Island is nominated for a BAFTA. I love Britain. #BAFTATV... Love Island is a BAFTA nominee.

'Like that time TOWIE won. But that was an audience award. This is an actual 'they sat down and decided to nominate this' award.'
