Former MTV Road Rules star Brian Lancaster has died aged 43 at his Pennsylvania home.
Lancaster appeared on season seven of the reality show in 1999 aged 23, and completed more than a dozen different missions over the course of 15 episodes to countries including Costa Rica and Mexico.
An online obituary described him as a 'jack of all trades' who had a BA in journalism and a masters in elementary education.
He died on Thursday from what his family believe was heart failure, as he had a history of arrhythmia. They insisted he had been involved in substance abuse prior to his death, TMZ reported.
Lancaster had been arrested multiple times on drink and drugs charges, most recently on January 4, 2014, for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
He pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to one-year probation, according to Radar. The two other charges were withdrawn.
Lancaster is survived by Sarah, his fiancee, who he was 'madly in love with since the first day he met her', according to the tribute.
He is also survived by his parents, Dennis and Carol, who described their son as an adventurer who loved the outdoors.

Road Rules saw young contestants help each other to reach a set destination by solving clues in pursuit of a $43k grand prize. It broadcast from 1995 to 2007 as a sister series to 'The Real World'.
Lancaster missed out on the prize but appeared in all the episodes of the Emmy-nominated show and was popular with fans.
Introducing himself in the first episode, he said: 'I'm kind of in a transition area of my life. I was punk rock, I was a skater, but spiritually I'd say I'm waking up again.'
His death comes just months after season 13 star Danny Dias died aged 34 of prolonged substance abuse.
Lancaster faced a number of other drug and drink-related charges throughout his life.
On June 23, 2013, he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, false swearing and fabricating evidence.
