More than 250 people were killed when a military plane crashed in a field outside Algeria’s capital on Wednesday, state media said, in the country's worst air disaster. Television footage showed crowds and emergency vehicles massing around the smoking and flaming wreckage near Boufarik airport southwest of Algiers. A line of white body bags could be seen on the ground next to what media said was a Russian Ilyushin transport plane (inset). A total of 257 people were killed, most of them military, the defence ministry said. Ten crew and other people described as family members also died, and a number of survivors were being treated at an army hospital, the ministry added.

Mariah Carey has bravely spoken about her battle with bipolar diagnosis for the first time.  The singer, 48, told PEOPLE that she 'lived in denial' and 'constant fear of being exposed' after being diagnosed in 2001, after being hospitalized for a physical and mental breakdown. She said: 'I didn’t want to believe it.' 

A woman whose breast implants were removed after they wreaked havoc on her health has revealed the extent of her suffering following the operation.  Emma Novotny (main), from Orange in NSW, went from a triple A-cup to a D-cup in December 2012 after years of struggling with self-esteem issues.  Bullies would call her a 'surfboard' at school, and her younger sister developed breasts at 13 which were bigger than her own. In the immediate days following the operation Ms Novotny said she felt quite good but over time her health began to rapidly decline (centre), and over years, would push her to trying to take her own life. Ms Novotny is now speaking out about her experience in a bid to raise awareness about the dangers of implants after they were removed (right).

Tristan Thompson spent the weekend hitting up a pair of New York City hotspots and holing up in his hotel room with a strip club worker who has been identified as Lani Blair. The boyfriend of very pregnant reality star Khloe Kardashian, 33, who is due to give birth any day now, was seen coming and going from his swank residence for the weekend at the Four Seasons in Manhattan's Financial District with Blair. They were first spotted kissing at the Penthouse at Dream Downtown on Saturday night, and video then shows the pair returning to the Four Seasons in the early morning hours of Sunday. Blair, 28, can be seen in a black jumpsuit while Thompson, 27, wears the camouflage track pants, Supreme jacket and white hoodie he was wearing at the club.

Australia's first 'micro lot' housing project - which offers home-buyers an 80 square metre house-and-land package for just $299,000 - has launched in the suburb of Ellenbrook, Perth. The properties are less than a twelfth the size of a traditional quarter-acre block, and come in two packages: a two-bedroom two-bathroom layout, or a two-by-one. Western Australian Housing Minister Peter Tinley says micro lots are 'part of the answer about getting affordable housing across the city.'

Snake wrangler Andrew Smeadley was called out to a property in Peak Crossing, near Ipswich, Queensland on Tuesday to remove a deadly red-bellied baby snake from a young girl's bed. The unwelcome guest was discovered by the girl's father - moments before it disappeared under a pile of her toys. Red-bellied black snakes are considered the tenth deadliest snake in Australia, and a single bite from the venomous vermin can prove fatal.

A friend told how his years in Hollywood left him skilled at DIY, saying: 'Even though Tom doesn't own his place, he treats it like his own palace. There is not a lot he cannot turn his hand to. He potters around all day tinkering. His latest project was renovating the bathroom.'

They've kicked a lot of goals in their athletic careers, and now two of the biggest names in Women's AFL have kicked a major one in their personal lives. Fremantle Dockers' Ebony Antonio and team captain Kara Donnellan became engaged on Wednesday in picturesque Uluwatu, Indonesia. For Ms Antonio, the shock proposal was the highlight of her year - and she wasn't expecting anything to top it.

Martina BIG, 29, from Germany had three melanin injections last year in order to 'become black' and says she is now a 'true African woman' after being baptised under a Swahili name. The pastor invited Martina into his church in the city of Nyeri, where she was baptised under the new name of 'Malaika Kubwa', which in the local Swahili language means 'big angel'. The Oscar-winning husband of star diver Tom Daley claims he was wrongly accused of shoplifting at a supermarket on the Gold Coast. Dustin Black is in Australia to support his husband as he competes at the Commonwealth Games, and on Wednesday he took to Twitter (right) to complain about being accused of stealing from Woolworths. 'OMG! Was just stopped and accused of shoplifting [at Woolworths] in the Gold Coast!.' he tweeted. 'Then out of countless folks with bags a search was demanded of mine. Thanks for the warm welcome to Australia Woolworths! Respect customers' privacy much? Shame. The tweet was accompanied by a picture of a Woolworths supermarket with a big  'no sign' covering it.'

Models Mariah Coogan, 23, (pictured left on the plane and top right inset) and Helena Lagos, 22, (top left inset), nightlife promoter Anand 'Happy' Patel, 26, (bottom right) and aspiring pilot James Pedroza, 28, (bottom right on the aircraft which he purchased in February) were all on board the Piper PA-24 Comanche when it crashed into a golf course moments after taking off at around 9pm.Before they took off from Scottsdale Airport, Coogan shared videos from the plane. She excitedly filmed herself in her seat and spun the camera round to show Patel who she affectionately called by his nickname. It is not yet clear who was flying the plane and the FAA will not comment on its ongoing investigation into the crash.

Ranjith Kumar, 32, suffered burns to 70 per cent of his body as he and two others ran across the train ignoring the high-tension wires above them during a protest in Paattali Makkall Katchi, India. Most protesters sat on top of the engine, but Mr Kumar got on top of the carriage and started moving towards the others at the front. Suddenly he came into contact with the overhead electric line and suffered an electric shock, then bursting into flames. Other protesters rushed to his aid as he was engulfed in a fireball, before being rushed was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Former neighbours of a vegan couple (inset) accused of neglecting their 20-month-old daughter have revealed they were unaware there was a baby in the house. The family moved into a neat terrace house (left) in an exclusive neighbourhood in Sydney's eastern suburbs just six weeks ago, with pictures of the home showing Easter decorations (top right) and children's shoes by the door (bottom right). A neighbour of the couple when they lived in the city's south said they had two boys aged about five and three. That neighbour believed the family moved out just two weeks ago, and was shocked to hear allegations the couple fed their child a strict diet, allegedly leaving her malnourished and suffering from rickets.

Real Bodies: The Exhibition shows 20 cadavers and 200 body parts preserved though plastination that doctors fear came from executed Chinese prisoners, such as the persecuted Falun Gong religious sect. The exhibit and the university body farm they were sourced from claim the remains were freely donated to science, but couldn't provide any documentation to prove it. The exhibition shows human bodies striped of skin with their muscles, tendons, organs, and bones exposed to give an insight into how they function.

Huge crowds flocked to watch a religious leader in India appear to pull a car - with his penis. The 'monk' – who is known only as Penis Baba - can be seen fiddling under his robes while he apparently attaches a rope to his private parts. After the white rope is tied to the car, he staggers backwards, apparently pulling the heavy vehicle around 100ft. Hundreds of people are seen gathering around to watch him in the village of Harpur in the Munger district of Bihar, India.

American writer Janne Robinson's (left) comments about plastic surgery have infuriated women around the world - including two 'plastic positive' women in Sydney. Zilla Stacey (right and inset) found the comments hateful and a form of bullying, admitting women should be allowed to have free reign over their own bodies. 'If she really loved and cared about women she would support them in whatever decisions they made to make them feel more body confident,' she told FEMAIL.

The 44-year-old Sydney-based journalist shared with her Twitter followers a particularly vile accusation (inset) about her perceived bias (Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull right). 'Any interviewer is supposed to be impartial but Leigh Sales virtually goes down on her knees to give any Lib an on-camera blow job,' it said. 'She gives them such an easy time.' Leigh Sales (left), who was previously the ABC's Washington correspondent, said the trolling highlighted the abuse women in the media face.

This is the unbelievable moment when an Italian greyhound Butter Bean was was filmed balancing on her hind legs and walking like a human by her owner Evan Chapman from Woden, Australia. Mr Chapman, who is a jeweller, said: 'It came quite natural for her even as a pup, she loved to balance on her hind legs when I first got her and over the years she graduated to walking crazy distances. She does it on command for a treat and sometimes on her own, I was amazed when she first did it.'

A new puzzle is challenging the web to spot all eight of the changes between two garden party scenes. Its creators say it takes an average time of four minutes and 32 seconds to complete the challenge. These historic images of the Far East captured by Scottish photographer John Thomson will be exhibited in London for the first time this month. The incredible negatives were taken during 1862 and 1872 when Thomson set off to Asia for the first time. Throughout his 10-year expedition, he recorded daily lives of east Asian people, as well as the royals and became the first photographer who documented Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious monument found. The Scottish photographer and writer was able to capture the individuality and humanity of the diverse people of Asia, whether royalty or street vendor.

The Irish runway (top left) claimed the top spot in a recent poll of air travellers and experts with many passengers praising the stunning views it offers of the rugged Atlantic coastline. One voter wrote: 'You fly in low...and sweep out over an emerald sea with the perma-white froth of the Wild Atlantic Way, lashing the many tiny rocky islands in a turquoise sea.' It saw off competition from other airports including Barra in Scotland, Nice, Queenstown in New Zealand and Saba in the Netherlands Antilles.

When you think of cruise ship shows, chances are cabaret-style performances aren't the first thing that comes to mind. One operator, P&O; Australia has just unveiled its latest production (left and right) and it's one that's set to wow. Directed by one of the creative minds behind Madonna's latest tour, the show Love Riot is a visual feast - one that brings together elements of circus, comedy and stunning choreography.

The annual competition, which attracts thousand of entries, launched earlier this month and aims to honour photographers whose work shows the world through travel and exploration. Eligible contestants can submit their entries into three categories: nature, people and cities, and there is no limit on submissions. Some of the early entries include,a rhino in Kenya, top left, blossom in Japan, top right, shepherds in the Himalayas, bottom left, and a rainbow over the Grand Canyon, bottom right.
