Demi Lovato defends her sobriety following fan accusation on social media

Demi Lovato has just proudly celebrated six years sober.

But after a night of partying in Los Angeles last week, photos led one trolling fan to pay close attention to what was in the 25-year-old's cup.

'@DDLovato Bishh I'm not hating on you or tryna put you on blast but can you at least explain this lmao,' the Instagram user said in reference to the suspicious yellow-tinted liquid that Demi was spotted sipping.

She added: 'Also at all of you who will prolly get defensive and pissed, I'm not tryna question Demi's sobriety bc I have a lot of respect for her. It's just it seems weird.'

Demi simply responded: 'I don't have to defend anything but it was Red Bull.'

She had been out celebrating friend Hayley Kiyoko's album release at No Vacancy in Hollywood.

March 15 marked six years sober for the pop star who has a history of addiction.

'Yesterday was a really big day for me,' Demi told her NYC concert fans a day following the anniversary.

'Yesterday, six years ago, I was drinking vodka out of a Sprite bottle at nine in the morning, throwing up in the car and I just remember thinking, "This is no longer cute. This is no longer fun. And I'm just like my dad." So I made changes in my life.'

Lovato shared the raw details of her alcohol and drug abuse back in October when YouTube released her documentary Simply Complicated

'My dad was an addict and an alcoholic,' she explained. 'Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family.'

'I was using while I had a sober companion and I went through like 20 sober companions. I was either craving drugs or on drugs. I was not easy to work with,' she said. 'It's embarrassing to look back at the person that I was.'

After years of self destructive behavior, the Dallas native has made sobriety sustainable by taking up jujitsu and attending therapy twice a week.
