'Oh s**t, I'm a pop artist now': Halsey admits she 'doesn't give a single f**k' about mainstream success...and talks candidly about mental health in new song Alone
She's been ruling the music charts with a string of hits like Closer with The Chainsmokers and her duet Him & I with boyfriend rapper G-Eazy.
But Halsey has admitted that her rise to mainstream fame has been a reluctant one for her, as she 'doesn't give a single f**k' about being on the radio.
The singer, 23, added that if her new track Alone does well, it will be her fifth top five song in a year - a possibility that makes her think 'Oh s**t, I am a pop artist now'.

'Oh s**t, I'm a pop artist now': Halsey, 23, has admitted she 'doesn't give a single f**k' about mainstream success
'Yeah, it's insane for a girl who did not give a single f--- about radio. When I started, all I was worried about was doing shows and getting fans and doing it organically,' she told the Courier Mail.
'I started 2017 and I guess Closer was still doing its thing - I will never escape that song - and then there was Now or Never, Bad Love, Him & I and now Alone.'
The star, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, is currently promoting Alone - featuring Stefflon Don and Big Sean - which she says is about feeling isolated despite being surrounded by people.
'Alone, at its core, is about mental health and the idea of being in a room full of people who want to talk to you but don't want to listen,' she said.

Halsey has been candid about her mental health in the past, revealing that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 16.
Though Halsey's bipolar diagnosis came at a turbulent time in her life, she revealed that the illness has only become even more of a hindrance as her career has exploded to a global scale.
'When you're a person with a platform, there's this necessity to constantly be sound of mind and well behaved and calm and politically correct,' she previously said.
Halsey officially dubbed attempting to balance a public image with caring for her mental well-being, 'a royal pain in the a**'.

The singer has been open about her struggle with mental illness in the past. In a 2016 interview with Billboard, the Now Or Never singer revealed the shocking truth of a suicide attempt during her senior year of high school that left her confined to a psychiatric hospital for weeks.
'Because I was 17, I was still in a children's ward, which was terrifying. I was in there with nine-year-olds who had tried to kill themselves,' she admitted.
Yet the outspoken singer continues to power through whatever life throws her way. In the end, it's her connection to her music that keeps her going.

'I could be having the worst day of my life,' she told Billboard. 'Hate my body, think I'm fat, think I suck, and as soon as I hear the first few notes of my intro, that all goes away.'
Halsey has been candid about many other issues - she uses her platform to raise awareness about endometriosis, and read a devastating poem about sexual assault at the 2018 Women's March.
