A teenager has revealed that her mother has finally accepted her bisexuality after they saw the movie Love, Simon, and her heartwarming story has since gone viral.

The 18-year-old named Jade took to Twitter a few weeks ago to explain how the romantic comedy about a closeted teenage boy has changed her mother's perception of her sexuality.

'In 2014 I came out to my mom as bisexual, [and] she told me she would never look at me the same,' Jade tweeted, explaining that she cried in the bathroom for six hours and her entire family ignored her for days.

'I was called disgusting [and] my dad told me I’d "get over it eventually,"' she added. 'My mom tried to force me to be straight.'

Sharing her story in a long Twitter thread, Jade said it was two years later when she told her mom that she had a crush on a girl.

'We cried in a parking lot [and] she told me she wasn’t okay with it,' she recalled. 'I asked the girl out anyways.'

After spending a year in a long-distance relationship with the girl, Jade flew over 4,000 miles to meet her, and they shared their first kiss on a Ferris wheel.

'It’s 2018, tonight I saw Love, Simon with my mom, after a four-year journey of teaching her to love me for who I am,' Jade said.

'She grabbed my hand in the theater while Simon came out to his family [and] mouthed, "I'm sorry," to me with tears in her eyes because when I came out I never got acceptance.'

Jade went on to explain that the change in her mother's attitude was almost immediate.

'When we were leaving the theater, she talked to me about my girlfriend proudly without caring that other people could hear us, something she would’ve never done even just a year ago,' she said.

Jade note that her mom had always been angry with her for being different and not coming out sooner, but the film made her realize how difficult it was for her to come out and accept herself as member of the LGBTQ community.
