A Staffordshire bull terrier named Magic was so thin he was mistaken for a plastic bag when he was found after being dumped. The four-year-old terrier cross was found on the side of a single track lane in Middlesbrough by a passerby. The passerby initially thought that Magic was a plastic bag however he soon realised he was actually an emaciated dog.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle today made their first public appearance since becoming uncle and aunt to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's third baby. Hand in hand, they stopped outside to speak with the murdered teenager's mother Doreen Lawrence, now a peer sitting in the Lords, and her son Stuart. Harry will read a message of support on behalf of the Prince of Wales, who in 2000 gave the annual Stephen Lawrence Memorial Lecture which began with a tribute to the Lawrence family. The royal baby, who was born at about 11am at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, has arrived just over three and a half weeks before the royal wedding.

Amber Rudd today promised Windrush immigrants will be given British citizenship 'quickly and at no cost' as she battles to save her job. The Home Secretary also said those caught up in the debacle would be due compensation as she described their stories as 'heartbreaking'. In a Commons statement, Ms Rudd said the debacle 'should never have happened' and ministers were 'too slow' to respond - but insisted that 'successive governments' bore responsibility. Unveiling a wide-ranging package designed to ease fury at the treatment of people who had been living in the UK and paying taxes for decades, Ms Rudd said they and their children would be granted fast-track passports with charges waived. An independently-run scheme will be set up to determine entitlement to compensation.

A fight has broken out outside a Pret a Manger in central London after a man assaulted a bystander who tried to call police after he attempted to gain entry into a derelict cafe. Shocking footage was of the scene was captured at around 2pm and shows a heavy set man approach a pedestrian who was phoning police because he had seen him bashing at the door of a cafe where the owner had apparently barricaded himself inside.

Adorable video footage shows two baby elephants scuffling with one another as they stop by a watering hole with their group. The clip was caught by couple Michelle Broadhurst and Jacques Joubert as they visited Kruger National Park in South Africa. The two boisterous babies roll around and tumble over each other in the dirt as an older, more responsible elephant intervenes by trying to separate the pair with it's trunk.

In the video, from Guilin City in Guangxi, southern China, a boat is seen capsizing before a second group attempt to help before falling into the water themselves. In total nearly 60 people ended up in the water and more than 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to rescue them. The incident happened on April 21 in Taohua river while the group were preparing for the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional holiday in China with races taking place across the country. The Xinhua news agency has reported that the accident happened because of a strong current.

Canadian man Sebastian Woodroffe, 41, (left) was lynched in Peru on Thursday after villagers claimed he shot dead revered Indigenous healer Olivia Arevalo, 81 (right and inset). Woodroffe had lived near the Amazon rain forest village for some time studying hallucinogenic medicine. He is believed to be a patient of Arevalo, who ran a healing center offering ayahuasca, an Indigenous hallucinogenic mixture, to Westerners.

The Tuhura is a 377ft megayacht designed in the Netherlands which is based on the look of centuries-old outrigger canoes used by Polynesian peoples, but equipped with modern technology. The boat features bedroom windows on the lower decks that appear transparent from the inside, but on the outside are opaque and appear to be part of the hull. Built-in systems control the lighting, music, video and curtains, but are connected to a computer which learns passenger behaviour and can make adjustments accordingly.

New book details John Wilkes Booth's (left) love affairs with nearly two dozen women. The actor was 26 years old on April 14, 1865, when he shot President Abraham Lincoln at the Ford Theatre in Washington, DC. Booth then fled to the South, where he was killed 12 days later. When he died, a diary was found on Booth's body that had the pictures of five women he was romantically involved with at the time. Those women included Lucy Lambert Hale (an ambassador's daughter, bottom right) and actresses Fanny Brown (top center), Alice Gray (bottom center left), Effie Germon (bottom center right), and Helen Western (bottom left). During his acting career, Booth was also responsible for breaking up two sister acts: Helen Western and her sister Lucille and Henrietta (top left) and Marie Irving. Henrietta Irving tried to stab Booth after catching her former lover leaving her sister's room at a hotel in 1861. After Booth's death, New York actress Henrietta Irving, bottom right, held on to a lock of his hair.

Eleonora Kondratyuk, from Sochi, Russia, (left, as she is today, and right before the attack) was just 18 when she was attacked as she walked to the beach. She described how a male admirer, whose advances she had rejected, grabbed her hair and poured acid over her face and body (inset, being taken to hospital). Eleonora, who was runner-up in a Sochi beauty pageant in 1998, was left severely disfigured after being attacked with sulphuric acid.

The intimate images of Marilyn Monroe were shot by close friend and collaborator Milton H. Greene in the early and mid-1950s, documenting the star at the height of her fame. While some emphasise the sex appeal that made Monroe an icon, others capture her more vulnerable nature. They will go on display at London's Proud Galleries next month. This is the shocking moment people were seen dicing with death on the roof of a 32-storey block of flats. They were caught on camera standing on a ledge on the top of one of the new Greengate apartment buildings on the border of Salford and Manchester. Residents in neighbouring flats said the 'urban explorers' were seen on the roof - nearly 100m above the ground - for just a few minutes.
