Princess Charlotte has made history by being the first-ever member of the royal family not to lose her spot in line to the throne when a male heir is born.

This is due to the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, which was passed when the Duchess was pregnant with Prince George and stated that succession to the throne would be based wholly on birth order – not gender.

Prince Harry has asked his older brother Prince William to be his best man at his wedding to Meghan Markle, it was revealed today.

Wills, 35, will return the favour to Harry, 33, who was his own best man at his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.

Kensington Palace said William is 'honoured' to have been asked - although his acceptance will scupper any lingering hopes he may have had of watching some of the FA Cup final, which is on the same day.

Prince Albert is currently the third betting favourite, behind Alexander and Arthur.

A baby Prince Albert ... named after ... err George VI?

Known publicly as Albert until his accession, and 'Bertie' among his family and close friends, George VI was born in the reign of his great-grandmother Queen Victoria, and was named after his great-grandfather Albert Prince Consort.

Although, as The Sun point out, a Prince Albert has come to mean something VERY different in modern times.

Kate & Wills Third Baby Name:

Alexander 2/1

Arthur 5/2

Albert 10/1

James 10/1

Louis 12/1

Betway's Alan Alger said: 'Our betting on the royal baby name went back up again this morning and all the business has been for Alexander.

'He was well backed on Wednesday, joining Arthur at the head of the market at 5/2, but bets on Alexander have outweighed any other name by some way today and we wouldn't be surprised to see that name inked on the birth certificate before too long.'
