Peter Kay RETURNS to Car Share: Comedian laughs with co-star Sian Gibson in first look at unscripted episode... months after cancelling tour

He sparked concern when he cancelled his live tour due to 'unforeseen family circumstances' in December, before returning to the stage at a Car Share charity screening last month.

And Peter Kay, 44, looked happier than ever as he reprised his role as supermarket assistant manager John Redmond in a new episode of Car Share which was entirely unscripted.

The return of the BAFTA award-winning series sees Peter rejoin co-star Sian Gibson, 41, who plays promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson for a new episode showing the pair ad-libbing their way through an entire car journey.

The trailer opens with the pair singing along to Buzzcocks Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've).

A voiceover then teases: 'Car Share is back, but not as you know it...'

A glowing Peter says: 'We decided to try something special, what would it be like if we filmed a whole journey without a script. Just making it up and basically seeing what happened.'

Cutting back to the car, Sian then says: 'I can do Heather Small' as Peter says: ' go on then!'

She then sings:'One night!' as the pair burst out laughing, with a smiling Peter saying 'that's Miss Piggy'.

When the show was announced late last year Peter said: 'We were always very fond of ad libbing around the script when we were filming the series so we decided to see what would happen if we took the script away and just relied on just our chemistry alone, reacting to whatever came on the radio.'

The show's return has been highly anticipated after the comedian cancelled his live tour due to 'unforeseen family circumstances' in December.

He delighted fans during a rare public appearance at a charity screening for Car Share last  month.

The Bolton funnyman took to the stage at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, Lancashire.

He told the audience: 'Thank you very much for supporting the Lily Foundation raising money for mitochondrial disease.

'Very kind of you. I appreciate it. Enjoy the last ever episode of Car Share. Don't tell anyone the end. Or tell anyone about any hedgehogs.'

Bowing as he left the stage, he added: 'So thank you. Lots of love, enjoy, take care, bye-bye.'

The audience had gathered in Blackpool to see a sneak preview of the final ever episode of Car Share as well as an unscripted version.

He previously announced there would be three charity screenings of his popular BBC comedy programme at the Blackpool venue, each one airing a special finale to the series as well as an entirely improvised episode.

The second series of the Bafta-winning show ended on an emotional cliffhanger last year as John failed to reciprocate the advances of his car share colleague Kayleigh.

But viewers were dismayed when he said there were no plans to pen a further series.

The comic later announced special episodes - a special finale to reveal what happens next for the pair and the improvised Car Share: Unscripted.

The screenings were initially announced on March 29 in what was the star's first Twitter post since cancelling his live tour in December.

He said in a statement the cancellation was due to 'unforeseen family circumstances', adding: 'This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.'

Fans at the event said they were left 'emotional' after watching the comedian take to the stage as he unveiled the final episode as well as an unscripted version.

He told the crowd via video message: 'What we've done is something a little bit different.

'We used to drive around quite a bit and we just wanted to see what would happen if we filmed a whole journey without a script, just making it up.'

The audience were quick to flock to Twitter following the screening, with one fan tweeting: '#PeterKaysCarShare fantastic last episode, and Peter Kay arrived on stage, what a brilliant night #hedgehog a great duo'.
