Stranger Things gets even stranger in new promo video from Netflix as production starts on season 3

They're back - but you don't see their faces although there are plenty of shots of their backs and their feet.

On Friday Netflix released a 93-second B&W video revealing the April 20 start of production on the third season of its blockbuster horror series, Stranger Things.

The original cast are featured - Millie Bobby Brown, 14, as the mysterious Eleven, Finn Wolfhard, 15, as Mike, Caleb McLaughlin, 16, as Lucas, Sadie Sink, 16, as Max, Gaten Matarazzo, 15, as Dustin and Noah Schnapp, 13, as Will, who was abducted in the first season.

Winona Ryder, 46, returns as Will's mother Joyce, along with David Harbour, 43, as her love interest. Police Chief Jim Hopper.

Netflix also introduced new stars Maya Hawke, 19, Jake Busey, 46, and Cary Elwes, 55, described as 'strangers' in the video.

Maya is the daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke and is set to play Robin. Jake is Bruce, a journalist for The Hawkins Post, with Cary as the town's Mayor Kline.

Only one person showed her face and had a speaking part in the clip, Erica Sinclair. She stole season 2 as wise-cracking grade schooler Priah, Lucas's little sister. The youngster closes it, saying: 'Get out of here, nerds' to the camera.

The final shot shows the stars at the table read as the image turns upside down, an homage to the weird and menacing other world the youngsters call The Upside Down.  

As for what is known about season 3's storyline, executive producer Shawn Levy has revealed that viewers will see Mike and Eleven, as well as Lucas and Max, exploring their respective relationships.

'But again, they're like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life?' he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

'It can never be simple and stable relationships and there's fun to that instability.'

Shawn previously teased: 'We'll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery) in season 3, and I'll just say we won't be abandoning the Dad Steve magic.'

The eight-part story resumes a year after season 2 ended but fans will have to wait until 2019 to see how things pan out. In December, David said co-creators, twins Matt and Ross Duffer, 33, 'need time' to write it.'
