I am a firm believer that Adam Handling is one of Britain's greatest chefs, and an evening at his flagship restaurant, Frog, in Covent Garden will convince you of this too. His food is fresh, modern and exciting, with no stuffiness to match the quality of fine dining. We feasted on his exquisite five-course tasting menu (very reasonable at £65), which included creamy celeriac sprinkled with a bacon-like mushroom powder that made me want to lick the plate clean, and hake served in a bisque made with onion oil that was utterly moreish. A hater of chocolate desserts, the chocolate mousse with salted caramel meringue was fresh, airy and somehow not too sweet. I wanted to eat the whole thing but sadly had to share. You will taste things you've never had before and instantly they'll be your favourites. Oh, and for god's sake, get the gooey cheese doughnuts.

Quietly buzzing away in a darkened basement in St. James, just a stone's throw from The Ritz, is one of oldest London's hidden gems. Be transported back to 1930s London with Quaglinos inimitable art deco charm, where you can sip on cocktails while listening to live music and even opt for your own sommelier to guide you through the expansive wine list. Its upmarket, brasserie-inspired menu has something for everyone, but the harissa and agave glazed aubergine, truffle and goats cheese agnolotti, and pistachio crème brûlée are highlights. And if its good enough for royalty the Queen, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret have been spotted there over the years its good enough for us.

With its brightly coloured tropical wallpaper and lighting that makes it feel like it's mid-morning even when it's night, Temakinho in Soho feels less like a hip sushi joint than a particularly trendy school canteen. But while not strictly authentic, the sushi here is of the highest quality and a great deal of fun too. The fusion of Brazilian and Peruvian flavours works well with the moreish rolls, and to my surprise I really enjoy a very bizarre-sounding 8-piece roll that contains jalapenos and is topped with tortilla chips. It's the kind of place to go to if you want affordable sushi and great cocktails before a night out in one of London's coolest neighbourhoods.

Were certainly spoiled for choice for bottomless brunches in London but Apero at The Ampersand Hotel is offering something different with an Italian feast that will perk up even the weariest of palates. Inspired by the long family lunches that Head Chef Giovanni Ballarin remembers from his Italian upbringing, there's a dish of sunny fried eggs and smooth Italian sausage in a deliciously rich tomato sauce. But the real stars of the show are Italian antipasti, featuring a selection of mouthwatering meats and deliciously strong cheeses. Creamy burrata with the softest focaccia is drizzled with a sweet, floral honey that I loved. And if you needed further convincing, your decadent breakfast also comes with lasagne and tiramisu to finish. There's free-flowing Prosecco, Aperol Spritz or Mimosas, making this a very convivial way to kick off a weekend.

It's rare to feel virtuous after leaving a restaurant, but diners at Sushisamba will feel guilt-free if they visit this week as the Bishopsgate eatery is putting on a special Earth Week menu to highlight the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Every dish features ingredients sustainably sourced from by the Asháninka, Perus largest indigenous group, which have then been turned into dishes by executive chef Claudio Cardoso. We were granted a sneak peek of the menu, and the fresh flavours of the Peruvian rainforest - lime, chilli, corn and plantain - will burst on your tongue. The standout is an indulgent avocado dessert served in the skin with a chocolate mousse 'stone'. It is creamy, rich, and almost savoury thanks to the bitterness of the chocolate and raw avocado. Stunning food - with stunning views from the 39th floor. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Cool Earth. April 23-30.

I am always a little skeptical when it comes to a Michelin-star restaurant. I can't help but chide 'how good can this food really be to warrant my money?' However for those wanting to invest in a true taste experience I could not recommend Club Gascon highly enough. Set in the unassuming surrounds of Smithfield Market the newly refurbished restaurant is far from the pretense that I have suffered in some award-winning restaurants. The staff at Club Gascon welcome you as they would the highest nobility. The restaurant re-opened in January and as well as the very chic decor Chef Pascal has introduced a menu to delight even the most jaded of diners. While you are welcome to order A La Carte you would be a fool not to go for the seven course tasting menu. At £110 it may seem steep but I promise that the astonishing flavours, textures and presentation is something that you (and your tastebuds) will savour for years to come. Chef Pascal - take a bow.
Edinburgh is lacking in credit when it comes to its food. When I made my debut visit there earlier this year I was told horror stories of deep-fried pizzas what I was not told about was Le Roi Fou. This restaurant opened last year and won Best Newcomer at the 2017 Scottish Food Awards and it's not very hard to see why. The front of house had won my approval by the arrival of the drinks menu with stories of a wine behind the bar, now illegal, and with only 8,000 bottles now in circulation, though what I admired further was the option of ordering cheap plonk sans-judgement. Head Chef Jerome Henry produced possibly the most elegant (not to mention tasty) octopus dishes I have had in recent years making way for a Scottish cuisine I was more than happy to sink my teeth into Cranachan (battered Mars bar who?) Le Roi Fou is a true credit to the Edinburgh food scene - my compliments to the chef.
If the thought of cucumber sandwiches and scones with jam leaves you cold, the Jasmine Indian Afternoon Tea at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate turns the afternoon tea tradition on its head in the most delicious possible way. It has a much better balance of savoury to sweet than most afternoon with treats such as crispy chicken tikka spring rolls, fish masala pastry and curried egg mayo sandwiches. While its theres no shortage of flavour its all on the gentle side of spicy to cater for all tastes. Theres plenty to satisfy the sweet tooth also, and the rose infused scones with cinnamon clotted cream will definitely linger in the memory as does the fabulous contrast of a sweet and salty shot of caramel lassi. Staff after attentive to your every need and the opulent surroundings provide the ideal backdrop for a leisurely afternoon of feasting and chatting.

Ekachai is the latest addition to the growing dining scene springing up around Granary Square in Kings Cross, offering authentic South East Asian flavours at purse-friendly prices. We opted for melt-in-the-mouth Prawn & Scallop Siu Mai and crisp Prawn Sesame Rolls as starters, but these delightful small plates could equally work well for a tapas style meal. Main course portions are intimidatingly large, but once you tuck in you wont have any trouble demolishing the delicate flavours. Notoriously stodgy dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Pad Thai are surprisingly easy to polish off. Its high quality cooking with quick service and a reasonable price, making Ekachai an ideal spot to stop off to refuel ahead of a Eurostar trip or a welcome treat after you step off the train.

More and more people are going vegan, but the word is considered to be dirty at most Michelin-starred restaurants, with vegetarian and plant-based fare relegated to the sidelines. Not at Texture, in Marylebone, where Icelandic chef Agnar Sverrisson uses his Scandinavian influence to bring out fresh, clean flavours from vegetables. There's dedicated vegan and vegetarian tasting menus here, priced at £76 per person, and dishes are also included on the main tasting menu too. Sverrisson isn't just jumping on the trendy bandwagon, he believes his vegan dishes taste as good as his meat ones. Our pick of dishes was a vegan Asian salad featuring juicy pieces of refreshing and sweet citrus fruits but the dessert of white chocolate, cucumber, dill and ice cream - an unusual mix - was the real stand out. Simple, refreshing, elegant and refined dining here.

For a taste of Marco Pierre White's Midas touch without straining your purse strings, head to the three-time Michelin starred chefs outpost on London's Kings Road. Located in the heart of Chelsea, its more city slicker then Sloane Ranger and while the menu is peppered with British classics, from roast meats to dressed crab, youd be a fool not to delve into its signature steak line-up. The ribeye and rump cuts are standout dishes, and theres a great value three-course menu deal on offer during the week although beware, most of the meat options come with a supplement. Best washed down with a delicious bottle of red or one of their delicious seasonal cocktails.

The Henrietta restaurant boasts cosy contemporary interiors and a relaxed atmosphere with top-notch food to boot. The French-inspired menu - crafted by culinary genius Ollie Dabbous - changes daily and the kitchen is open so diners can watch the chefs in action. Bagging a corner seat close to the culinary stage, I settled in for what was to be a fine feast. For starters, I veered for the first thing that caught my eye - a bowl of smoked eel, served with deliciously warming broth. Meanwhile, my companion went for the fragrant vegetable soup. We rounded things out by sharing a plate of charred mackerel and serving of perfectly pinked onglet, topped with a portion of golden fries. At first we were going to skip sweets, but our friendly waitress twisted our arms with her mouth-watering description of the madeleines. As the place is from the same people behind the Experimental Cocktail Club, expect highly-drinkable libations too.

With a cold snap biting the UK at the moment, what better way to defrost than with a warming meal? If youre looking to travel to warmer reaches through the power of taste, look no further than SoupStew. The food start-up, based on the historic Petticoat Street Market in East London, is now delivering via Deliveroo and UberEats. This brand does exactly what it says on the tin, with hearty dishes a cross between a soup and a home-cooked stew. You might need a spoon and a fork! There are vegan and vegetarian options including a deliciously smokey aubergine daal. For meat-eaters, the Moroccan-inspired lamb harira and iconic Louisiana Gumbo stew are must-tries. To top it off, the salted caramel brownies are the best Ive ever tasted!

If you've booked tickets for Cirque du Soleil, kick your night off in style and head to The Ivy Kensington Brasserie for dinner. The restaurant, just a 5 minute taxi ride from the Royal Albert Hall, has a delicious pre-show set menu (£28 for three courses and drinks)with two cocktails inspired by the performance which awaits. The Juggling Kiwi Martini is a delicious blend, which I loved more than I imagined and I swiftly polished off the Wyborowa vodka, sugar syrup and kiwi mix. But if youre more of a bubbles fan, go for the Silky Web, which consists of a funky splash of prosecco, rosé, lychee, ginger and Havana three-year-old rum. The set menu features a nice concise spread including chicken Caesar salad, roast salmon, sauteed mushrooms and a deliciously moreish creme brulee.

Supper clubs are all the rage in London, being a fantastic way to sample food from up-and-coming chefs in a more relaxed and intimate setting than a busy restaurant. Now more and more are opening up in rural regions, and so much the better, because this is where local produce can really shine. The Teal Dining Club is one of the newest to hit the Bury St Edmunds food scene, and Suffolk's stunning ingredients take centre stage here. The club has two monthly nights: one focusing on seasonal produce from the local area, and another themed around a different world cuisine every month, so you can roam the globe without the expense. Visit the website or Facebook page for details of the next evening.

You'd expect grand food at a fine dining restaurant hidden within the labyrinthine corridors of the opulent Royal Albert Hall, and luckily that is just what's on offer at Coda. The menu has been designed by French Michelin-starred chef Eric Chavot, and it is a tribute to classical French cookery. We enjoyed a velvety smooth white bean velouté topped with a perfectly poached egg and crispy shallots, as well as a fresh sea bream ceviche. I opted for chicken for my main - something I rarely do as it's so hard to keep the bird moist - but the meat was buttery and paired well with the silky celeriac puree and earthy mushrooms. To finish, a surprisingly light apple tart that was more of a slice. The pastry was beautifully thin but there wasn't enough of it and the caramel was perhaps a touch overdone. The rich food matches the luxurious setting. Two courses £39, three courses £45.

King's Cross has undergone an incredible transformation and the cherry on top is the sumptuous Granary Square Brasserie. The restaurant, masterminded by the same group behind The Ivy and Sexy Fish, presents a jewel box of a place which guarantees to put you in a toe-tapping mood. Think lashings of velvet, dark lighting, exposed brickwork and theatrical chandeliers. Kick things off with the most delicious Granary cucumber-infused martini before gorging on mouth-watering steak, fresh fish and perfectly-cooked vegetables. The tuna carpaccio just melts in your mouth and for after dinner, the camembert peppered with truffle is a must try! Be sure to book in advance as there was a wait-list of 90 minutes the night I visited. It's quickly become the hot ticket in town!

If Laura Ashley conjures up images of floral décor, then youll be very surprised by the chic modern opulence of this peaceful hotel overlooking Lake Windermere, which has all the ingredients for a real dream of a weekend away. Its the perfect location for exploring the beauty of the Lake District, but the relaxed atmosphere means you may well be tempted not want to venture too far. Two restaurants serve up the best of British cuisine with local specialities such as Lakeland Venison in the restaurant and Cartmel Valley duck and chilli sausages in the Brasserie standing out as highlights, while a hearty breakfast will set you up for a day of walking. It has all the ingredients for a real dream of a weekend away.

If youre after a spot to instantly make the stresses of the hustle and bustle of London melt away, the Imperial Durbar is like stepping into a cosy living room full on curiosities from India and, more importantly, inventive and spicy cocktails. Standout favourites are the fresh and spicy Chaijito, ideal for energising after a hectic day, and the Mad Maharjah a creamy concoction of scotch mixed with coconut milk and pistachio, topped with absinthe foam. Being able to dial nine from the phone booth and order food from the Cardamom Club is an added treat, and the light and fresh flavours of Southern Indian fish curry and spicy chicken dhansak will easily persuade you to linger long into the evening for a bespoke creation (if you ask nicely) from the friendly and knowledgeable bar staff.

Stuffy South Kensington is the unlikely location of The Orange, a cosy pub and hotel serving up delicious restaurant-quality food. Part of the Cubitt House group, its a little slice of rustic charm among rows of designer boutiques and flashy bars. And now, every month, you can also enjoy intimate gigs in its dimly-lit basement while sipping on seasonal gin cocktails and snacking on chilli salt squid, sage gnocci and Hebridean lamb. Squashed in next to well-heeled locals, we tucked into slices of tangy gorgonzola pizza while listening to the sounds of acoustic duo Lounge Blizzard, playing jazz swing, country and pop favourites with a twist.

The Royal Garden Hotel's afternoon teas are quintessentially English examples of the great British tradition. With a piano tinkling in the background, the Kensington five-star hotel is a soothing place to delight in perfectly cooked scones with clotted cream and homemade jam. We had the Ovo Afternoon Tea, which runs until March 4, and celebrates the return of Cirque de Soleil to London, which this year has a bug-themed show. The cakes are themed accordingly, with pretty sugar butterflies and white chocolate critters. The starter of strawberries with balsamic vinegar was a highlight, as was the large selection of quality loose leaf teas served in homemade tea bags. The sandwiches were tasty, though not as flavoursome as others I've had, and the cakes were frankly hit and miss. However a Baileys-filled choux bun was deliciously boozy, and the pick of the lot. Go for the beautiful setting, and the gorgeous views of Hyde Park. From £31 pp.

As veganism continues to sweep the London foodie scene, even pubs are catching on. Fullers is the latest chain to roll out veggie and vegan offerings across its branches, and city favourite The Hydrant is the perfect place to try it. The small but surprisingly tasty menu includes options like spelt and pine nut salad and Cajun roasted chickpeas. We tried the vegan chilli con carne, a zingy bowl of plant-based goodness that packed a spicy punch and came on a bed of soft basmati rice sprinkled with coriander and smashed avocado. The pumpkin and kale gnocci, swimming in a creamy sauce, were sautéed to perfection. This is no hipster health joint; the veggie options sit comfortably along pub classics like burgers, chicken wings and fish and chips but thats undoubtedly part of The Hydrant's charm.

There are no shortage of artisan gins on the market now thanks to the boom in popularity of the classic gin and tonic. One of the newest is a limited edition honey-infused gin by Warner Edwards, which last year brought out a Rhubarb Gin. Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky has released its 25 Year Old expression. The whisky has been mellowed for a quarter of a century and matured in the invigorating sea air of Wick in the Highlands of Scotland. Its spicy sweetness was later granted depth and colour by ex-oloroso Spanish oak butts until it reached the premium age of 25. The flavour is firmly anchored in bitter chocolate and creamy vanilla with hints of toffee sweetness and crisp overtones of fresh lemon and coconut while the finish is long and spicy.
