The Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative, launched by Secretary-General António Guterres at the end of March, champions a people-centric approach to peacekeeping. It suggests that all peacekeeping stakeholders—the Security Council, the Secretariat, the troop-, police-, and finance-contributing countries, and the parties to a peace process—are ultimately responsible to ordinary people living in communities torn apart by violence.
In 2017, ACTED piloted community-led projects in Maban refugee camps aiming at building community leadership capacity and reinforcing self-management structures – the donkey cart ambulance was one of them.

Nineteen-year-old Monyjok Malual Marial describes life in Kakuma refugee camp, in the Northern part of neighbouring Kenya, as difficult. After years in exile, he decided to return to his origins in Malakal – only to discover that resuming life in South Sudan is hardly a walk in the park either.
At least 19 people were wounded – eight of them seriously – when armed militants fired on farmers on Monday in the Tuma area of Kutum locality in North Darfur. The farmers had returned from the camps for the displaced to cultivate their lands.
El Tayeb Kafot, the MP representing Kutm and Fata Borno constituency told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday that about 70 armed men in three Land Cruisers led by Ahmed El Ghali opened fire at voluntary returnees while they were tilling their at village and then beat them with sticks and rifle butts.
Overview:
Khartoum- 20 June 2018- (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees): On 20 June, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Sudan’s Commission for Refugees (COR) mark World Refugee Day 2018, to call for solidarity with refugees and other persons of concern. On this occasion, UNHCR would like to commend the historical and continuous hospitality offered by the people and Government of Sudan to the refugees who have been seeking safe haven in the country over the last five decades.

Population Update
OVER 2,600 SOUTH SUDANESE REFUGEES ARRIVE IN MAY – Decreasing new arrival flows continued through May, with 2,641 refugees arriving to East Darfur, White Nile, West Kordofan and South Kordofan. This brings total new arrivals in 2018 so far to 20,327.

Summary
The text of the following statement was issued jointly by the Governments of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Norway.

Jordan is one of the countries most affected by the Syria crisis, with the second highest share of refugees compared to its population in the world, 89 refugees per 1,000 inhabitants.
The majority of Syrian refugees in Jordan live in urban areas and in poverty: over 85% live below the poverty line. 48% of refugees are children, and 4% are elderly.
The Government of Jordan has taken steps to open formal employment opportunities for Syrians. Nearly 50,000 refugees have active work permits.
