Investment trusts have been around 150 years and some of them increasing their dividend payments for over half a century. But what are they are what they good for? On this episode of the Big Money Questions show, Alex Denny, head of investment trusts at Fidelity International has the answers. He gives a back-to-basics guide to how they work and how they can be a good way of spreading investment risk.

This means the Fed will likely have to keep raising rates a fair clip to keep inflation in check, and therefore the dollar will keep rising. As the dollar goes up relative to the domestic currency, their debts therefore effectively grow and become more expensive to service.

UPDATED Shares have started the new week on the rise as trade war fears among investors simmered down over the weekend. While in the short term we can expect more volatility and a lot of political rhetoric flying back and forth, investors seem to be taking the view that cool heads will prevail in the medium and long term. In companies news Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank Group has sweetened its offer to acquire rival Virgin Money.

About one in six people are affected by this severe form of flying nerves, yet half of aerophobes still choose to fly, according to analysis from market research group YouGov. We have found that failing to inform an insurer about the condition in advance can mean a claim being denied if a holidaymaker then pulls out of a trip. Jamie Leyshon from Llantwit Fardre, South Wales is a self-confessed aerophobe and lost hundreds of pounds when he was forced to cancel a trip due to the condition.

The Italian stock market rose 1.5 per cent yesterday after the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and League parties agreed to form an administration. Bonds also rallied, sending yields sharply lower, as investors breathed a sigh of relief that the country is not heading for a new election - at least not yet.

Gordon Ramsay's former right-hand man plans to open a rival restaurant business
Stuart Gillies ran Ramsay’s restaurant group until he left in January after more than 15 years with the company. Documents filed at Companies House show that Gillies, a former chef, is sole director of a new restaurant business called Alfa-Zero Limited. A trademark filing made by Gillies last month suggests his new venture could be called Wood & Wood.

There are hidden clauses within some travel insurance policies that can catch you out, and leave you out of pocket, if you're not aware of them. Britain's funeral market is to be investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority amid rising costs for cremations and funerals. As part of its investigation, the CMA will examine whether consumers are able to access 'clear enough' pricing information and get a 'fair deal'. Since the CMA's announcement, shares in UK based Dignity , which is one of the biggest funeral providers in the country, have slumped by 14 per cent to 1,054.00p.

Father-of-three, 40, is refused £65K payout by health insurer Aviva despite paying £22 a month for 16 years - because he had a cardiac arrest not a heart attack
Vicky and Steven Huddleston took out critical illness insurance to cover their mortgage in the event that one of them became ill. The couple have three children, Amelia, 15, Jude, 12, and Lena, ten, (pictured right) and wanted to be sure they would be able to pay their bills should either of them suddenly be unable to work. So, when Steven, 40, nearly died in January after his heart stopped for 20 minutes, they were grateful they'd had the foresight to prepare themselves.
ASK TONY: EE keeps billing my father more than £200 even though he has dementia
My father has vascular dementia and has been in a home since March. Two months before this he took out a mobile phone contract as well as broadband and landline with EE. I told EE of his condition and that he was in a home. I was told that if I sent a doctor's letter no cancellation fee would apply. The letter cost me £35. My father was then sent a bill for £215.56, which was then refunded, and they then billed him for it again.

Al Rayan Bank pays a top rate of 1.35% interest on its easy access cash Isa account. The bank is Sharia compliant and therefore quotes expected profit rather than guaranteed interest, which is paid quarterly, or on maturity. It requires a minimum deposit of £1,000.
Ford Money pays a rate of 1.65% AER (1.64% monthly income) on its two-year fixed rate Isa. It is a Portfolio Isa which means savers can open more than one Isa under the same tax-free wrapper to divide cash between easy-access and fixed rates. It requires a minimum deposit of £500.
Bank of Cyprus UK pays a top rate of 1.32% AER interest on its Online Easy Access account. The minimum deposit is just £1. Watch out after 12 months the rate drops to 0.85 per cent
Gatehouse Bank pays a top rate of 2% AER interest on one-year fixed term deposit. The bank is Sharia compliant and therefore quotes expected profit rather than guaranteed interest. It requires a minimum deposit of £1,000.
RCI Bank pays 1.3% AER variable interest on its easy access deal. Deposits in its Freedom Savings Account have no FSCS protection, but you are covered for up to €100,000 by the French equivalent (FGDR) It requires a £100 deposit.

Aldermore pays 1.65% AER interest on its two-year fixed rate Isa account. Interest can be paid monthly or yearly. Allows transfers in from other providers, minimum deposit is £500.

Paragon offers a rate of 1.30% AER variable interest on its Easy Access Cash Isa, the top rate for monthly income. Minimum deposit of £1.
Ford Money pays 1.45% interest on its one-year fixed rate Isa. interest paid monthly at a rate of 1.44%. The provider offers flexible accounts that allow withdrawals without affecting your annual tax-free allowance. It requires a minimum deposit of £500.

What next for interest rates? The 'dead certain' hike that never arrived - Bank holds at 0.5% but door left open for an August move
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee kept interest rates on hold at 0.5 per cent, in spite of forecasts of a 90 per cent chance of a rise just three weeks ago. Policymakers voted 7-2 for a hold, with the two members who called for a rise saying that they believed there were 'upside risks' for inflation.
