Dylan, on the other end, ended up taking photos by himself, dressed in a simple Jurassic Park T-shirt, black pants, and yellow tennis shoes.

The star, who plays Clay Jensen in the Netflix drama, later issued a contrite apology as his absence became noticed.

'Ya sorry I was late,' he tweeted in response to a message from MTV jokingly asking other people to Photoshop Dylan into the group shots so he would appear next to his co-stars.

'Someone please photoshop me (and @dylanminnette) into these adorable photos of the @13ReasonsWhy cast,' the network asked fans of the show.

Naturally, fans delivered, including one person who pasted one of Dylan's solo shots onto an image of the group, making it as though he arrived on time to pose next to Miles, 24, who plays Alex Standall in the series.

Another person hastily drew a stick figure and pasted an emoji face on it, writing 'Dylan' above the character.

Dylan's tweet, which has received 16,089 likes and has been shared 2,058 times, also attracted clever responses from Twitter users making light of the actor's tardiness.

'He showed up a couple minnettes later you guys,' one person wrote in a cheeky pun.

Someone else shared their own take on the show's ad campaign for the show's second season, which premiered in May.

While one of the images showed Clay's face with a Polaroid of Hannah Baker in front of his left eye — showing how Dylan's character remains haunted by Hannah's death after her suicide in season one — the new version of the image replaces Hannah's photo with the group shot of Dylan's castmates.

In the montage, the slogan 'The tapes were just the beginning', which in the new ad campaign refers to the tapes Hannah left in the first season to explain why she committed suicide, becomes 'The awards were just the beginning.'

Dylan's mishap has brought a bit of levity in the coverage of 13 Reason Why's second season, which has been the subject of controversy in part due to the dark themes it explores, including suicide and its aftermath, rape, sexual assault, bullying, and gun violence.

One particular scene, which depicts an anal rape in graphic detail, has been deemed 'unnecessary' by critics.

The Parents Television Council has issued a warning about the show, calling it a 'ticking time bomb' in light of the release of the second season.

Its stars and creator, however, have stood by the series, which has already been reviewed for a third season. Katherine, 22, has announced she would not return to play Hannah.

The series is nominated in the Best Show category at the MTV Awards, which were recorded on Saturday and will air on Monday. Katherine has also scored a nomination for Best Performance in a Show for her role as Hannah.
