Eagle-eyed fans were quick to note that Meghan (seen left at Ascot yesterday) did not fasten her name badge - which read HRH The Duchess of Sussex - to her front, as her husband Prince Harry did and the Duchess of Cambridge (seen right in 2016) has always done on her own Ascot outings. Instead she tucked it alongside her Givenchy clutch bag (inset).

Pregnant Pippa Middleton rocks a VERY glamorous take on maternity wear in a jumpsuit and statement earrings to pay tribute to Paralympians who competed at the Winter Games
The Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister, who confirmed her pregnancy earlier this month, looked radiant at a charity event honouring Paralympians at London's Guildhall last Thursday. Snaps of the evening shared on Facebook by the charity Disability Snowsport UK - of which Kate's sister is a patron - captured Pippa, 34, beaming in a Tephi jumpsuit and playful earrings as she mingled with guests.

You can pay large sums of money for a restaurant meal, but only a few will make you feel like every penny was worth it. Gaijin Sushi, a 10-seat bar in Birmingham, is one of those places. Michal Kubiak, a Polish master who has honed his craft over years, is the head chef and co-owner here. Formerly of the also-excellent Sushi Passion, Kubiak has now moved to this tiny establishment, where you feel like you're in the presence of one of the Japanese masters. The sushi is prepared in front of you - the only way it should be eaten - and you will realise this is how fish should taste. The Crispy Prawn with Eel is orgasmic, and the Sweet Prawn Nigiri are true to their name. You know sushi is good when you don't need to add any soy to it. The pieces are equal to restaurants charging £300 a meal. But at Gaijin? You can be very well fed for under £40, with almost every dish priced at under £10. A Michelin star can't be far off for Kubiak.

High on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower in Shoreditch, Duck & Waffle is most famous for the carnivorous dish it is named after. But the restaurant is currently experimenting with vegetarian fare, and for a limited time, it is offering a Veg & Waffle alternative to its meaty signature dish. I was sceptical before I tried it. The sweetness of the waffle and syrup needs a gamey meat, and duck suits sweet flavours so well. But meat lovers don't need to worry as the vegetarian version is just as tasty. Cubes of cauliflower cut through the sticky sweetness of a gorgeous date puree, as well as the richness of a thick dollop of marscarpone that coats the waffles. The star of the show, they hit that sweet spot of crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Tamarind adds a pleasant spice that runs across the back of your throat. It is moreish, and lick-the-plate-clean good. A shout out also for the deep-fried polenta with truffled celeriac cream too.

Get a crash course in 500 years of British history at The London Cabaret Clubs new, immersive cabaret show, the Queen of Roses. Hosted in the iconic Bloomsbury Ballroom, the new show aims to take guests on a sensational tour of British heritage, celebrating Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II, with saucy cabaret performances and delicious dishes inspired by key moments from each of their reigns. Start your evening with a cocktail and be transported back in time as you feast on hot smoked salmon, roasted chicken breast and goats milk panna cotta while watching the eye-popping display.
South America meets Asia on this delicious fusion menu overseen by head chef Andras Katona and tucked away in the heart of St. James, just a stones throw from Green Park. Cocktail lovers will feel right at home as theres a different drink to pair with just about every dish, big or small, plus an in-house sommelier to help diners navigate the wine list. Highlights on the à la carte menu include the smoked duck salad, Herefordshire dry aged fillet of beef and Asian slaw. And if youve got enough space, finish off with a show-stopping chocolate pave with hazelnut ice cream.
Whether you and your friends want to row on the Aperol orange canal in the sunshine, relax under the pergola before riding down the slide, take a turn on the Vespa carousel, or simply celebrate the start of the end of the working day, everyone can raise a glass of Aperol Spritz at Aperol's annual Big Spritz Social in Shoreditch from May 31 until June 9. Tickets (£10 per person) include two Aperol Spritz cocktails and traditional Italian aperitivo from food partners Arancina.

If you think youve had a top-notch piece of steak, Id urge you to head to Smith & Wollensky, and compare your feed to one of their colossal cuts. My friend and I were left silently in awe after a recent visit to the smart New York-styled spot, located off the Strand. Our knifes sliced through our steaks with ease and the pink meat was dripping with flavour. Id ordered a 680g Signature Bone-In Rib-Eye, while my friend had plumped for a melt in the mouth USDA Fillet 280g. Both pieces of meat were almost as big as our dinner plates. But its not just the beef which Smith & Wollensky is popular for, and its seafood also reels patrons in - as does the chocolate cake. Feeling positively defeated after our meat feast, we opted to take the giant dessert home in a doggie bag. It proved big enough for the whole family! So, go armed to Smith & Wollensky with an ample appetite, as guarantees to satisfy the largest of stomach rumbles.

If you want to sample a slice of Italian food with a theatrical twist slap bang in the centre of London, look no further than Bunga Bungas Matinee Brunch in Covent Garden. Between 11.30am and 2pm at the weekend, guests enjoy a bottomless prosecco or Bellini served with a side of camp theatre performed by the waiters. They keep you regularly topped up as they serve an antipasto starter with a selection of meats to get the taste buds flowing, followed by a whopping metre long pizza with three different toppings sausage and mushrooms, Parma ham and hollandaise sauce, and goats cheese with caramelised red onion - to share with your party. The entertainment is the main focus of the brunch with the food long forgotten as karaoke rounds off your two hour afternoon session.
NATALIE CORNER
I am a firm believer that Adam Handling is one of Britain's greatest chefs, and an evening at his flagship restaurant, Frog, in Covent Garden will convince you of this too. His food is fresh, modern and exciting, with no stuffiness to match the quality of fine dining. We feasted on his exquisite five-course tasting menu (very reasonable at £65), which included creamy celeriac sprinkled with a bacon-like mushroom powder that made me want to lick the plate clean, and hake served in a bisque made with onion oil that was utterly moreish. A hater of chocolate desserts, the chocolate mousse with salted caramel meringue was fresh, airy and somehow not too sweet. I wanted to eat the whole thing but sadly had to share. You will taste things you've never had before and instantly they'll be your favourites. Oh, and for god's sake, get the gooey cheese doughnuts.

Quietly buzzing away in a darkened basement in St. James, just a stone's throw from The Ritz, is one of oldest London's hidden gems. Be transported back to 1930s London with Quaglinos inimitable art deco charm, where you can sip on cocktails while listening to live music and even opt for your own sommelier to guide you through the expansive wine list. Its upmarket, brasserie-inspired menu has something for everyone, but the harissa and agave glazed aubergine, truffle and goats cheese agnolotti, and pistachio crème brûlée are highlights. And if its good enough for royalty the Queen, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret have been spotted there over the years its good enough for us.

With its brightly coloured tropical wallpaper and lighting that makes it feel like it's mid-morning even when it's night, Temakinho in Soho feels less like a hip sushi joint than a particularly trendy school canteen. But while not strictly authentic, the sushi here is of the highest quality and a great deal of fun too. The fusion of Brazilian and Peruvian flavours works well with the moreish rolls, and to my surprise I really enjoy a very bizarre-sounding 8-piece roll that contains jalapenos and is topped with tortilla chips. It's the kind of place to go to if you want affordable sushi and great cocktails before a night out in one of London's coolest neighbourhoods.

Were certainly spoiled for choice for bottomless brunches in London but Apero at The Ampersand Hotel is offering something different with an Italian feast that will perk up even the weariest of palates. Inspired by the long family lunches that Head Chef Giovanni Ballarin remembers from his Italian upbringing, there's a dish of sunny fried eggs and smooth Italian sausage in a deliciously rich tomato sauce. But the real stars of the show are Italian antipasti, featuring a selection of mouthwatering meats and deliciously strong cheeses. Creamy burrata with the softest focaccia is drizzled with a sweet, floral honey that I loved. And if you needed further convincing, your decadent breakfast also comes with lasagne and tiramisu to finish. There's free-flowing Prosecco, Aperol Spritz or Mimosas, making this a very convivial way to kick off a weekend.

I am always a little skeptical when it comes to a Michelin-star restaurant. I can't help but chide 'how good can this food really be to warrant my money?' However for those wanting to invest in a true taste experience I could not recommend Club Gascon highly enough. Set in the unassuming surrounds of Smithfield Market the newly refurbished restaurant is far from the pretense that I have suffered in some award-winning restaurants. The staff at Club Gascon welcome you as they would the highest nobility. The restaurant re-opened in January and as well as the very chic decor Chef Pascal has introduced a menu to delight even the most jaded of diners. While you are welcome to order A La Carte you would be a fool not to go for the seven course tasting menu. At £110 it may seem steep but I promise that the astonishing flavours, textures and presentation is something that you (and your tastebuds) will savour for years to come. Chef Pascal - take a bow.
It's rare to feel virtuous after leaving a restaurant, but diners at Sushisamba will feel guilt-free if they visit this week as the Bishopsgate eatery is putting on a special Earth Week menu to highlight the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Every dish features ingredients sustainably sourced from by the Asháninka, Perus largest indigenous group, which have then been turned into dishes by executive chef Claudio Cardoso. We were granted a sneak peek of the menu, and the fresh flavours of the Peruvian rainforest - lime, chilli, corn and plantain - will burst on your tongue. The standout is an indulgent avocado dessert served in the skin with a chocolate mousse 'stone'. It is creamy, rich, and almost savoury thanks to the bitterness of the chocolate and raw avocado. Stunning food - with stunning views from the 39th floor. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Cool Earth. April 23-30.

Edinburgh is lacking in credit when it comes to its food. When I made my debut visit there earlier this year I was told horror stories of deep-fried pizzas what I was not told about was Le Roi Fou. This restaurant opened last year and won Best Newcomer at the 2017 Scottish Food Awards and it's not very hard to see why. The front of house had won my approval by the arrival of the drinks menu with stories of a wine behind the bar, now illegal, and with only 8,000 bottles now in circulation, though what I admired further was the option of ordering cheap plonk sans-judgement. Head Chef Jerome Henry produced possibly the most elegant (not to mention tasty) octopus dishes I have had in recent years making way for a Scottish cuisine I was more than happy to sink my teeth into Cranachan (battered Mars bar who?) Le Roi Fou is a true credit to the Edinburgh food scene - my compliments to the chef.
If the thought of cucumber sandwiches and scones with jam leaves you cold, the Jasmine Indian Afternoon Tea at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate turns the afternoon tea tradition on its head in the most delicious possible way. It has a much better balance of savoury to sweet than most afternoon with treats such as crispy chicken tikka spring rolls, fish masala pastry and curried egg mayo sandwiches. While its theres no shortage of flavour its all on the gentle side of spicy to cater for all tastes. Theres plenty to satisfy the sweet tooth also, and the rose infused scones with cinnamon clotted cream will definitely linger in the memory as does the fabulous contrast of a sweet and salty shot of caramel lassi. Staff after attentive to your every need and the opulent surroundings provide the ideal backdrop for a leisurely afternoon of feasting and chatting.

Ekachai is the latest addition to the growing dining scene springing up around Granary Square in Kings Cross, offering authentic South East Asian flavours at purse-friendly prices. We opted for melt-in-the-mouth Prawn & Scallop Siu Mai and crisp Prawn Sesame Rolls as starters, but these delightful small plates could equally work well for a tapas style meal. Main course portions are intimidatingly large, but once you tuck in you wont have any trouble demolishing the delicate flavours. Notoriously stodgy dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Pad Thai are surprisingly easy to polish off. Its high quality cooking with quick service and a reasonable price, making Ekachai an ideal spot to stop off to refuel ahead of a Eurostar trip or a welcome treat after you step off the train.

For a taste of Marco Pierre White's Midas touch without straining your purse strings, head to the three-time Michelin starred chefs outpost on London's Kings Road. Located in the heart of Chelsea, its more city slicker then Sloane Ranger and while the menu is peppered with British classics, from roast meats to dressed crab, youd be a fool not to delve into its signature steak line-up. The ribeye and rump cuts are standout dishes, and theres a great value three-course menu deal on offer during the week although beware, most of the meat options come with a supplement. Best washed down with a delicious bottle of red or one of their delicious seasonal cocktails.

A free gin and tonic sounds too good to be true but on June 14 in London and on June 16 in Manchester, fans of the botanical tipple can enjoy their favourite drink without paying a penny. All you have to do is bring along a cucumber and a free G&T; will be yours. If you can't make the dates, you can also visit the Hendrick's Facebook page to take part and receive a token for a free tipple that can be used until June 20.
