Red Rocks makes pleasing seasonal debut with easy victory at Lingfield

Red Rocks prepared himself for a tilt at the Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland with a pleasing first outing of the season at Lingfield.

The Enter The Flat totetentofollow Conditions Stakes was a giant drop in class

for Brian Meehan's former Breeders' Cup Turf winner, and against four rivals he

was forced to make his own running.

Although Al Shemali and eventual runner-up Many Volumes gave the 4-6 favourite

a little to think about, Jamie Spencer only had to give Red Rocks a brief

reminder to score by half a length.

"That's just what we wanted and he's had a good blow afterwards," said

Meehan.

"Things can change but we're pretty likely to go for the Tattersalls with the

main plan being the Breeders' Cup again."
