Kim Kardashian West has spoken out against critics who judged her for rocking fulani braids for an awards show and allowing her five-year-old daughter get her naturally curly hair straightened in a revealing new interview.

The 37-year-old reality star dazzled in her white crop top paired with a sparkly skirt for the MTV Movie & TV awards Sunday - but people were shocked she chose to wear her hair in thin corn rows after experiencing an immense about of backlash earlier this year.

In an interview with Bustle, Kim revealed her decision to wear the braids was because her eldest daughter, North West, wanted matching hairstyles.

'I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her. So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair,' Kim explained to the news site.

This is not the first time the mother-daughter duo has matched. Kim has seen out with her five-year-old daughter sporting matching outfits including one outing where they both wore silver dresses.

So it should come as no surprise that the pair would rock matching hairstyles for specific events.

But during the interview, Kim recognized why there has been controversy in the past over her previous hairstyles.

This backlash first began in January when the reality star revealed on Snapchat that her then-platinum locks were braided into corn rows.

She called the look her 'Bo Derek braids' - in reference to the actress' hairstyle in the 1979 film, 10.

Many people blasted Kim on social media saying her comment was 'disrespectful' and she was accused of cultural appropriation.

Squad goals: 'I was just seeing these things that (people were saying) online and they were just ridiculous,' Kim said to Bustle.

Making waves: The reality star previously got in trouble when she wore corn rows and called them 'Bo Derek' braids

But the mother-of-three clarified her original comment stating she understands and respects the culture behind fulani braids.

'I obviously know they're called fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and I'm totally respectful of that,' she said. 'I'm not tone deaf to where I don't get it. I do get it.'

After people complained, Kim said she should've explained her meaning before posting the Snapchat.

'But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyone's culture by wearing braids,' Kim said. 'If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her.'

One thing the reality star will not stand for is people attacking her daughter for the choices they make when it comes to her hairstyle and outfits.

North celebrated her fifth birthday this past weekend in New York City and opted to wear her curly, biracial hair straight for the festivities.

But people criticized Kim for allowing her daughter to get her hair straightened at such a young age.

'I was just seeing these things that (people were saying) online and they were just ridiculous,' the KKW beauty mogul said.

People accused Kim of letting her daughter get extensions to achieve the straight locks, but the mom said North's hair is naturally that long when straightened.

Ultimately, Kim said she was not going to allow other people tell her how she should raise her daughter.

'I'm not going to comment on everything and get all worked up over it because I wasn't doing anything harmful and she loved it and she had fun with this new look and she was feeling it,' she said.
