That one was for John: AVB dedicates Everton win to absent skipper Terry

Chelsea manager Andre-Villas Boas has dedicated the club's dramatic extra time win over Everton in the Carling Cup to under-fire skipper John Terry.

Terry, who is currently being investigated by the FA into claims that he racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand on Sunday, was not part of the side that won 2-1 at Goodison Park.

And although he refused to talk about the matter after the game, Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News: 'I think all the players would like to dedicate it to John Terry.'

Terry was accused of racism after it was claimed a YouTube video showed the Chelsea and England captain directing a racist slur towards Ferdinand, the brother of his England central defensive partner, Rio.

The 30-year-old has strongly denied the claims, saying: 'I would never say such a thing - and I’m saddened that people would think so.'

Villas-Boas, who earlier in the weeks publicly backed Terry and declared the matter closed, saw his side progress the quarter-finals on Wednesday night thanks to an extra-time winner from Daniel Sturridge after Louis Saha had equalised Salomon Kalou's opener.
