Jermain Defoe has expressed his disappointment after being left out of Fabio Capello's 24-man squad to face Montenegro in England's final Euro 2012 qualifier next Friday.

But the 28-year-old striker was omitted from the squad which was announced on Sunday night, with Capello opting for Wayne Rooney, Andy Carroll, Darren Bent, Danny Welbeck and Bobby Zamora as his attacking options.

'I am obviously very disappointed,' said Defoe. 'I feel I have not let Mr Capello down when I have played, but I will work hard to get my place back.'
