Muhamed Besic has been named Everton’s Player of the Month for January.

The 23yearold midfielder featured in six matches during January and added some much needed steel and aggression to a porous Everton rearguard, before succumbing to another hamstring injury against Swansea City.

The tenacious Besic put in some eyecatching performances during his spell in the Everton lineup and was named man of the match in Everton’s 2-1 Capital One Cup semi-final victory against Manchester City.

His presence was sorely missed in the return leg but other impressive outings against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur reminded the Goodison faithful of what the former Ferencvaros man can bring to the side.

It’s been a frustrating season for Besic so far. His first start of the season lasted just eight minutes due to a hamstring injury he picked up against Chelsea in September. He was replaced by Steven Naismith, and the rest is history.

He also was sent off on international duty in bizarre circumstances, the referee saw fit to dismiss the fiery Bosnian after he threw chewing gum in the face of Victor Rodriguez Soria during his country’s 3-0 win over Andorra in September!

Besic has been out for three weeks with his latest hamstring complaint, but Roberto Martinez has said he will be available for selection soon.
