It appears that Selena Gomez can do just about anything including acting in an extremely weird and bizarre horror film.

On Wednesday artistic director and friend to the 25-year-old pop sensation, Petra Collins, 25, released behind the scenes images and excerpts from her upcoming horror short, A Love Story, featuring Selena and fans of the singer-songwriter have some mixed feelings and rightfully so.

The brief clips see Selena suck on an eyeball, get cozy with a figure with hands as a head, eat icing scraped off her own leg with a butcher's knife and chew on what looks like a finger.

The film will stream in full at an unspecified time on Instagram's new long-from video platform, IGTV, but until then, fans have the teaser to keep the occupied - that's if they aren't too terrified to watch.

After Petra posted clips from the video, fans of Selena took to the comments of the social media platform to share their thoughts on the odd content.

One person said: 'If you want a nightmare of Selena here you go' while another person simply said: 'That's so creepy.'

Another person shared their opinions on the content and Selena herself in a comment that said: 'She is not okay! She is mental okay! Give me old Selena GOD help Selena.'

'This is disgusting wtf is wrong with you,' one comment said and another person wrote: 'This is awful! I am in total shock. What happened to my Selena??'

But others weren't fazed about seeing Selena in a different light so to speak and share their support for the celebrity and the director on Instagram.

Odd: Since the excerpts were released, fans have taken to Instagram to share their opinion on the weird video

One person wrote: 'This is art no matter how many people disprove of this. Selena is a young beautiful woman who can make her own choice and as long she is not harming anybody people should respect her decisions.

'Love that she is trying something new and I don’t think this type of art will bring her career down hill.'

Another comment said: 'Love the vibe this is the type of vibe we need for a horror movie.'

And then there were those who said how they could see themselves liking the 'new' Selena in a comment that said: 'This looks amazing, I could see myself liking this new Selena with a real acting career.'

'Y’all need to stop seeing her as some princess,' a fan wrote in Selena's defense. 'She is a grown woman not a Disney channel star. Would you want to someone to constantly remind you of how you were. Like grow up people change.'

And while it has been years since Selena appeared on Disney Channel, it's clear that the singer is taking a new artistic path regardless of the opinion of her fans.

The horror short was written by author Melissa Broder who is the voice behind the novel The Pisces, the poetry collection Last Sext and essay collection So Sad Today.

Petra also directed Selena's Bad Liar and Fetish music videos and has spoken in the past about her desire to the do a horror film with the pop star.

'I love The Exorcist and the things that come from inside you, the things that are a little more subtle, and things that you deal with from inwards,' Petra told Vanity Fair. 'And I feel like it's something Selena and I both love talking about - that topic is sort of dear to us.'
