Dog owner hit with £350 bill after her cockapoo gets its JAW stuck in £14 toy from Aldi's 'special buys' centre aisle

  • Samantha Trofimowicz's cockapoo Moet had to have a toy removed from its jaw
  • The pooch had its tongue and teeth stuck in a £14 treat dispenser from Aldi
  • The physiotherapist, from Stoke-on-Trent, had to pay £350 to have it removed
  • She believes her beloved pet could have died and wants Aldi to recall the toy

A mortified cockapoo owner claims her pooch's jaw got stuck in an Aldi toy and the product had to be surgically removed for a whopping £350.

Samantha Trofimowicz, 47, gave two-year-old Moet a new £13.99 treat-dispensing toy she had purchased from the discount supermarket on Wednesday night.

But just 30 minutes later Samantha heard a shrieking sound and claims she found Moet with her jaw stuck inside the hard plastic Foobler toy, with blood and saliva around the ball.

Samantha rushed her pet to the vets and after Moet was sedated, vets were able to surgically remove the ball from her tongue and teeth - landing Samantha with a £353.60 bill.

The physiotherapist, from Stoke-on-Trent, alleges if she had not been home when Moet became injured, her beloved pet could have died.

Samantha quickly warned others about what happened, posting on the Facebook group More Cocka than Poo, which is for cockapoo owners that have dogs that look more like cocker spaniels than poodles.

Aldi has now apologised to Samantha and the toy's designer said they were seeking to make improvements - but Samantha said she wants the product to be recalled.

Samantha said: 'I had only given the toy to Moet for half an hour when I heard the most deafening scream come from her - I knew she was in pain.

'When I looked over I could see that her jaw was stuck in the toy, and when I touched it, I knew it wasn't coming off.

'It was 6.30pm at night, so I had to take her to an emergency vets as all of the others nearby were shut.

'They had to sedate her and cut the toy away from her mouth - leaving me with a massive vet bill, all for a £13.99 toy!

'It worries me that the toy is designed for dogs to keep themselves entertained when their owners aren't home, but I fear that if I wasn't home when this happened she would've died.'

Samantha claims she heard Moet's high-pitched screeching while she was on the phone to her friend and when she examined her, noticed her jaw was stuck in the ball.

Not wanting to cause Moet any more harm, Samantha urgently searched for an emergency vet and got her dog seen at nearby clinic Vets Now within the hour.

Samantha said: 'After I had calmed her down I quickly got her in the car and rushed her to the nearest emergency vets.

'They took her into the room and examined her jaw and told me that they'd have to sedate her, as it didn't look like it was coming off.

'I went home and waited while she was in surgery, and while I was home I had to mop her blood off from the floor.

'Luckily I got a phone call just an hour and a half later to tell me that she was ok and I could come and pick her up.

'When I got there they told me that her tongue and teeth had got stuck inside the toy and that they had to sedate her to cut through the toy - it was a horrific experience!'

Moet is now recovering from the traumatic experience at home, but Samantha is striving for answers as to how this happened to her dog and is desperate for the toy to be recalled.

The designers of the Foobler toy said they had been contacted by Samantha and several other dog owners and had invited them to help them improve the toy.

A spokesman from the Foobler team said: 'Our drain for this toy is not intended for chewing.

'Throughout the design process, we consider the playing experience and education value to dogs.

'We do continue to improve and consider how it works for different dogs, and put our experiences and messages in the instructions.

'We did include information in the packaging that the toy is not suitable for heavy chewers, as well as the mouth size information.

'It was a rare case as we have sold the item for 4.5 years.

'But we really want to improve it and try to understand how this happened.

'So we are insisting to have improvements made to avoid this happening again, even if it is a really rare issue.'
