Liam Gallagher fans slam 'ignorant' singer after he calls late Queen icon Freddie Mercury a 'goofy c***'

He's not one to hold back when it comes to voicing his opinion, but Liam Gallagher's fans thought he went too far when he attacked late Queen singer Freddie Mercury.

The singer, 45, responded to a tweet in which a fan compared the two artists, writing: 'Freddie Mercury - Bohemian Rhapsody. Liam Gallagher - Songbird.'

Liam simply replied: 'F*** him, the goofy c***.'

But even Liam's die-hard fans didn't take his words lying down, with some branding him 'ignorant' and 'self-important.'

One wrote: 'I hope you are joking, much respect to Freddy tho.'

Another added: 'you are so bloody ignorant and self important.'

Liam later took to Twitter to say: 'So I wake up to news that I hit another and I mean another all time low after my vile and I mean vile outburst outburst did somebody say outburst about Fred mercy.

'I'm sooooooo sorry if I upset anybody it's a good job there's 24 hours in a day as you'll get over it LG x.'

Freddie died on November 24, 1991 at the age of 45, due to complications with AIDS.

He dodged rumours about his failing health for years after reportedly being diagnosed with AIDS in the late '80s.

He then stayed out of the public eye leading up to his death at the age of 45.

It's not the first time Liam has criticised the band Queen or its members.

In October last year, the former Oasis singer told Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins during an interview for NME that they were too 'Queen-y.'

He said: 'Do I like Queen? Uh, not really, no. I mean, I get Freddie Mercury has a great voice and all that, and obviously they’ve got some great songs. But I do find them a bit Queen-y.'

'They’re a top band and obviously they’ve got great songs, but I dunno, man. Brian May’s guitar sound sounds like he’s got it clogged in his a**.

'I respect him and all that, but I don’t know, man.'

In 2012, Liam beat a host of rock legends to be crowned Number One Frontman Of All Time by XFm fans, beating both Freddie and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

He said at the time: 'Greatest frontman? I knew that anyway! There’s not many of us about. There are a lot of pretenders out there.

'But I’d like to thank everybody for voting and stuff. Nice one! It’s always been about the vocal for me, man. If you’re a good looking f***er like me, you’ve got to be down the front, haven’t you?'
