Tom Hanks' son Chet Hanks, 27, reveals he snorted cocaine and smoked CRACK before the birth of his daughter 'saved' his life

He is on the verge of being officially three years sober.

And Chet Hanks, 27, shared that the birth of his daughter Michaiah, whose exact age is unknown, 'pretty much singlehandedly' pushed him to address his addictions.

'If my daughter wasn’t born, I don’t know if I would’ve made the change necessary. It’s – she saved my life, honestly,' the son of Tom Hanks revealed on Access Live.

'And when she gets older, she’ll know that. I’ll tell her that. But yeah, I was really lucky in that sense, you know?' set Chet, who sired his little girl by Tiffany Miles.

'Because if not, I don’t know what coulda happened. I could be – the consequences, could’ve been bad so, it’s all good, though,' said the rapper.

He shared that his mother Rita Wilson, who married Tom in 1988, 'really always kinda knew that this was gonna be a problem for me, before even I did.'

'I don't know what coulda happened': 'I could be – the consequences, could’ve been bad so, it’s all good, though,' said the rapper

Chet explained that ‘you know, moms always know best and moms can see what you’re going through. But you know, when you’re a kid, you’re a teenager, you’re rebellious, you wanna have your own freedom, your own independence, so that was pretty normal for - in that sense.'

He added: 'But it just was a matter of me maturing and starting to really know for myself what’s best for me and what’s not.'

Chet revealed on Instagram in 2015 that he had been to rehab, saying: 'A couple months ago I was selling coke [and] doing coke until I couldn't even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged. I even smoked crack.'

Growth: He added: 'But it just was a matter of me maturing and starting to really know for myself what’s best for me and what’s not'

This month on Access Live, he recalled that 'it just got to the point where, I was just like, okay, my way is not working.

'And I’ve tried everything, everything to try to, you know, like, to succeed and win, other than just complete abstention, just completely just going sober from everything. Like, no cheating, no halfway steps, just completely doing it.

'And when I just made the decision and committed to it, everything that I’ve wanted in life has been happening. But most importantly, just my relationships with the people that I love and that love me, that’s the most rewarding part.'

In addition to Chet, Tom and Rita also share a 22-year-old son called Truman. The Forrest Gump star and his first wife Samantha Lewes share two children - Colin, 40, and Elizabeth, 36.
