John Cleese, 78, and fourth wife Jennifer Wade, 47, hold hands and enjoy a romantic boat ride in Venice

He's been married four times, but John Cleese and his current wife Jennifer Wade appeared to be very much in love during a trip to Venice.

The couple, who have a 31-year age gap, were pictured holding hands as they strolled through the streets together.

They later went for a boat ride, with Jennifer snapping photos on her camera.

Jennifer was casually-clad in all-black ensemble, tying her navy jacket around her waist, while John wore a navy jacket on top of a polo shirt.

Despite his multiple marriages, the Fawlty Stars star famously said that he believes he was never in love before he met Jennifer, who he married in 2012.

Speaking in an interview with The Lady in 2015, he is reported to have said: 'It’s very nice to be in love at my age.

'It makes almost everything else seem relatively unimportant. I’ve never had that experience before. I've never had this sort of connection before.'

Monty Python star John married jewellery designer Jennifer, who at is 32 years his junior, in 2012 in a private ceremony on the picturesque Caribbean island of Mustique.

The father-of-two married first wife, American writer and actress Connie Booth, in 1968, and the couple went on to have a child together, daughter Cynthia, 43, three years later.

Connie wrote and co-starred opposite Cleese as waitress Polly Sherman in the hugely-popular Fawlty Towers.

The couple were divorced before the second series of the BBC comedy was written and aired, but they remained close friends in spite of their split.

Cleese then went on the tie the knot with American actress Barbara Trentham in 1981, with the couple welcoming their daughter Camilla into the world in 1984.

The pair divorced in 1990, and the actor left the UK in favour of a move to the bright lights of Los Angeles.

In 1992, he married American psychotherapist, Alyce Faye Eichelberger, but the pair went on to divorce in 2008.

He famously had to fork out £25million in divorce settlements across his three failed marriages.

Last month, John once again threatened to leave the UK after MPs decided not to go ahead with the second phase of the Leveson Inquiry.

Previously, the comedian said he would be 'out of here' if the 'corrupt' Prime Minister won the Commons vote on the Government's Data Protection Bill.

MPs voted by 304 to 295 not to amend the Bill to establish a statutory inquiry dubbed Leveson Part Two.

Now, social media users pounced on the producer and actor to make good on his vows to move out of the country.

Minutes after his initial tweet which said 'I will not live in an England like this' Cleese already seemed to be regretting his rant as he added: 'Only one problem: our cats like it here.'
