Bachelor In Paradise couple Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth announce they have ended their engagement

They became engaged during the dramatic Bachelor In Paradise season 4 after-show that aired in September last year.

But sadly Taylor Nolan, 24, and Derek Peth, 30, have decided to part ways as the duo announced their split on Tuesday.

'It is with much sadness that we have decided to end our engagement. We put everything we could into our relationship and are heartbroken to go forward separately, but we know this is the best decision for the both of us,' they said in a joint statement to E!.

'We will still be present in each other's lives with support, admiration and respect for each other.' the statement read.

The couple had recently embarked on a long distance relationship which may have had something to do with the split.

Peth relocated to New York while Nolan remained on the opposite coast, in her home town of Seattle.

In an Instagram post from May 14 Nolan shared a memory of her beau meeting members of her family during the holidays, along with a snap of the couple posing by a fireplace.

'He was just him and I was just me. It's one of my favorite trips we've had because everyone loved him and it just fit. Long distance is difficult but thinking about good quality experiences like this makes it a bit easier.' the mental health counselor wrote.

Nolan first appeared as a contestant on Nick Viall's season of The Bachelor while Peth was on JoJo Fletcher's season of The Bachelorette before they found love on last summer's Bachelor In Paradise.

The couple got together early during one of the most dramatic seasons in the Bachelor franchise which saw production halted amid sexual assault allegations stemming from a hot tub incident between cast-members Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson.

The duo got engaged on the Bachelor In Paradise after show in September last year. Host Chris Harrison said it was 'one of the sweetest, rawest moments I've seen in a long time.'

The studio later concluded no sexual misconduct took place.

Peth got down on one knee in front of a live studio audience on the Bachelor In Paradise after show, presenting Nolan with a $50,000 Neil Lane diamond ring.

'If people ever wonder if this stuff is real...all you had to do was see him, he was shaking like a leaf,' host Chris Harrison said after the engagement.

'That was one of the sweetest, rawest moments I've seen in a long time.' he told E! News.

Meanwhile ABC announced Tuesday the participants for the upcoming fifth season of Bachelor In Paradise which premieres August 5 including Jordan Kimbell and David Ravitz from the current season of The Bachelorette and Krystal Nielson from Arie Luyendyk Jr's season.
