Famed radio DJ Dan Ingram passed away on Sunday.

According to The New York Times, the 83-year-old died in his Fort Lauderdale, Florida home 'after choking on a piece of steak,' it has been claimed.

The AM top 40 radio pioneer had previously received a diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndrome in 2014, but 'his death was unrelated to his disease.'

According to a post on musicradio77.com, Dan 'did not suffer.'

The man known to fans as 'Big Dan' and 'Kemosabe' began his career at New York station WABC-AM in 1961, where he stayed until his retirement in 2003.

According to his Times obituary, Ingram was 'a quick-thinking, somewhat bawdy jester' who had a reputation for poking fun at everything from songs and sponsors to the weather.

He was remembered in online tributes on Monday by radio personalities Don Imus and Dan Taylor.

The host of Imus In The Morning took to Twitter to describe the father-of-nine as having a 'monster voice, wit and intelligence.'

Meanwhile Taylor said there will 'never be another like him.'
