The Duke of Cambridge today met Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (left and top right) a day after Israel 's president urged him to take a 'message of peace' to the Arab leader. William will sit down for talks with Mr Abbas in Ramallah (bottom right, pictured arriving in a convoy), becoming the first member of the royal family to visit the Palestinian Occupied Territories at the request of the Government. After meeting Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's president Reuven Rivlin yesterday, William will have the opportunity to get to know the Palestinian leader during discussions in his offices. President Rivlin asked William to encourage the Palestinian Authority President to take the 'first step' with Israel to end the 'tragedy' between them, which has existed for more than a century.

Bus driver Mike Elcombe, 45, (left) and his passenger Brian Chapman, 76, were pronounced dead at the scene after the double decker Mr Elcombe was driving hit the side of an HGV vehicle. Six other passengers suffered serious injuries and 11 more were left with minor injuries in the horror collision on the A47 in Guyhirn, Cambridgeshire, at rush hour yesterday. Shocking pictures show the jack-knifed truck wrapped around the bus (right and inset) in scenes described by police as 'horrendous'. Mr Elcombe's grief-stricken wife today changed her Facebook profile picture to an image of her husband smiling in his First Bus uniform. Heartfelt tributes have also been paid to Mr Chapman, who was making a weekly trip to a market in Kings Lynn when he was killed. The bus involved was a First X1 Excel service - which is not fitted with seatbelts -was travelling between Peterborough and Wisbech at the time.

Dramatic photographs show the devastated landscape left behind after a four-day inferno has wreaked havoc on Saddleworth Moor. The British Army remains on standby this afternoon as firefighters continue to tackle the four-mile belt of fire which has raged across the popular beauty spot. A major incident was declared this morning as the blaze worsened (bottom row, middle), threatening nearby homes and residents (shown bottom right). Around 34 houses were evacuated while 50 firefighters fought the blaze. This afternoon photographs taken by a drone show how parts of the vast area have now been extinguished (shown main and bottom left), leaving behind scorched earth.

Four dogs have been rescued from searing hot cars in just two days as temperatures reached a blazing 86F. Police were first called to the rescue of the 'distressed' dog locked inside a vehicle at the Cheshire Oaks shopping centre (left). Onlooker Jason Mcdonnell King said the pet was left inside the car for more than an hour before being let out 'panting' and rushed to the vets. This comes after officers yesterday 'struggled to breathe' as they dived in a car and rescued Labradors from an 86F car in York (inset). On the same day, another dog was left panting and distressed after being locked in a car in Stockton-on-Tees (right). The latest incidents come amid warnings from the RSPCA not to leave dogs in cars which can quickly turn to 'ovens' and kill pets in the space of just 10 minutes.

Love Island star Sophie Gradon's parents have said their 'hearts are broken' following her death aged 32. A Chinese court yesterday sentenced two drug dealers to death in front of hundreds of people. The two criminals received the verdict on a sports ground in Haikou, southern China's Hainan Province, before being put to execution immediately. Many of the spectators were young students who were organised to watch the public sentencing rally wearing school uniforms, according local media.

Students Jamie Raines and Shaaba Lotun, both 23, from Colchester, Essex, met at the age of 16 when they were both schoolgirls and have been inseparable ever since, and appeared on Bride & Prejudice last night. However, Shaaba is from a strict Muslim family and her mother Fai expected her to marry a man from within their Mauritian community. According to Fai, Jamie - a transgender blogger who has identified with being male since he was four and who documented his journey on YouTube - didn't fit the bill. Viewers took to social media to vent their anger after watching the Channel 4 show as as Fai struggled to accept Jamie, who came out as transgender when he was 17, as a man, claiming she had 'lost' her daughter because of the impending marriage.

These are the amazing scenes as USAF F-15E Strike Eagles were seen flying through the Mach Loop in north Wales earlier today. The fighters dropped to as low as 250ft during their training flight. The area is popular with plane spotters who can climb to the top of a hill and watch the fighter jets and attack helicopters blast through the valley below. Military pilots need to learn to fly low in order to avoid enemy radar if ever faced with flying in a combat zone. By flying low, they are able to mask their aircraft using the terrain.

Former world No 1 golfer Luke Donald has put his Illinois mansion on the market for $4.5million (£3.4m). Donald and his wife Diane have owned the property in Northfield, Illinois, since 2008, when they purchased the six-bedroom home for $3.75m (£2.83m). While the couple have lived in the home, on and off, for 10 years, Donald still clearly has significant pride about his home country. His office has a large Union Jack carpet.

BT called in experts when a customer complained that the new dark green ruined the look of his picturesque 16th century home in Stanstead near Long Melford, Suffolk. The firm painted the green cabinet to blend in with the flint wall of the former village pub - rendering it near invisible. Ervin Xhafa was shocked to find that BT had put up the 120cm high by 120cm wide box right in front of his Grade Two listed house. The communications giant did not need to get permission from Mr Xhafa - or the local council - to put up the cabinet.

NEW Philip Vervaeke built a 15ft-high treehouse for his children at his home in Scotstoun, Glasgow, but was ordered to tear it down after his neighbours complained about the structure. Mr Vervaeke tried to argue that a treehouse had been on the property since 2007 but had fallen into disrepair and was replaced last year. Glasgow City Council said they condemned the treehouse after receiving seven complaints. Neighbours said it was an eyesore, an invasion of their privacy, as well as a potential fire hazard.

Maya Clanton, a graphic designer from North Carolina, was filmed by her friend Nakeya as she was driven home from hospital. Maya had been given nitrous oxide ('laughing gas') to ease the pain during the operation, which would have lasted around 45 minutes. At one point she exclaimed she couldn't blink because they 'hit a nerve in my eye!'.

NEW The encounter was filmed at Glen Garriff Conservation in Harrismith, South Africa and shows lion manager Mike Thulani interacting with the big cat, named Smokey. Mike has known the 10-year-old lion all his life and has always been his main caretaker.

Remarkable footage shows the curious cephalopod being transported on 29-year-old Jess Grubb's right side. She was being filmed during an underwater session in Oahu, Hawaii, when the strange coupling occurred. Videographer Shane Brown, 26, spotted the creature swimming close to Jess, and, hoping to film the pair swimming in tandem, he attempted to encourage it towards her. Instead, the octopus latched onto her and remained there for 30 minutes.
