I literally cannot believe that the bonkers boy is six. He kicked off his last night as a 5yro by secretly getting up after I had put him to bed, going into the bathroom and putting liberal amounts of anti bacterial handwash in his hair 'to gel it' and smooth down his curls. When he realised it wasn't really going to plan and was getting bubbly he came downstairs and told me that he had 'been very cheeky and was very sorry'. I found it quite hard to be stern about it!
As for the rather challenging Hatchimal theme that Monty insisted upon having for his party it actually went really well and the kids had a great time here's my top tip (in case you ever need to throw one!):
Order the cheapest Hatchimal you can find on Amazon - he was to be our 'entertainer', so the children gathered round to listen to it come alive inside the egg and hatch out. This kept them busy for at least 15 mins - result.
We also had a dance like a Hatchimal contest and out the mini eggs in all the goody bags, and had bought a table setting pack of table cloths, cups and napkins.
That was it! Minnie was on fine (read bossy!) form as the party host and as well as playing egg and spoon (we hard boiled eggs and attempted to paint them with Hatchimal style speckles), she invented a great game where she let the little ones our a jug of water over her head. They all queued up for a go!
We basically did lots of little things for a few mins at a time because I know how short Monty's attention span is! For the first time ever we tried a pinata which was great and when James had a turn towards the end he hit it so hard it flew over into our neighbour's garden. The kids all thought this was hilarious, especially when he started throwing the sweets over the fence.
Sometimes it's the unplanned things that are the best fun!
Oh and our card made it on to CBeebies! It hadn't been on all day so we thought it wasn't going to make it but he got mentioned in the last slot! His face was a picture so it was worth the sticking and cutting and making our own envelope to post it. Check my Instagram feed to see the video @motherofallstartups
