Earlier this month, it was announced that Theroux had adopted the dog who was left without a home following Hurricane Harvey.

Kuma, which is Japanese for bear, was about to be euthanized when she was rescued from a Texas shelter as she suffered an array of health complications.

She was saved by volunteer group A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue based in Conroe, Texas, after seeing 'she desperately needed help'.

Theroux later reached out to the group and launched a top secret months-long adoption process.

'The odds were stacked against Kuma as a shy, mangy pit bull with medical issues, but something about her pulled at our heartstrings. We saved Kuma from euthanasia without hesitation and took her into our rescue to bloom,' the rescue group said in a Facebook post.

'Kuma is an ambassador of the breed, with a very calm temperament and breezed though her basic obedience training. We knew that she’d be a perfect fit for Justin, when he came all the way to Texas for a meet and greet!' the post added.

In early June, the pup was flown from Texas to New York City via Pilots N Paws and was finally united with her new owner.

Theroux took to Instagram to introduce his followers to his new pup, writing: 'MEET KUMA (くま) !!!

'There are too many people to thank for Kuma.... @jesslee81 and William and everyone @chancetobloom. You are the heroes who took Kuma from death and loved her back to life.
