Gemma Collins addresses THAT awkward magazine interview... and admits she LIED about making her sex tape on Loose Women

A painfully awkward interview, which saw her lose her temper at a journalist, went viral online earlier this week.

But Gemma Collins blasted claims she had come across as 'rude' on Wednesday - and explained she was simply questioning why the interviewer had not asked her about the book she was promoting.

Speaking to the Loose Women panel, the reality star, 38, also admitted to completely fabricating her sex tape, after panicking that she needed to be funny during an interview.

On Tuesday Now magazine published an awkward chat with Gemma, which saw her lose her temper after discovering the interviewer had not been sent a copy of her book - The GC: How to Be a Diva - and consequently hadn't read it.

The piece saw Gemma accuse the journalist of 'not doing any research into the book', and become even more irate when the PR stepped in to inform her only a limited amount of copies had been distributed.

Addressing the interview on Loose Women, Gemma explained she simply grew concerned after the interviewer had failed to ask about the novel.

Her take: Revealing the interviewers failed to ask her about the book, she reasoned: 'I've done other interviews when I've been briefed not to answer everything not about the book'

Innocent question: She continued: 'We check and the publishers confirmed they have sent the book, so I just said 'Do you want to go away and read it?''

She said: 'Obviously I'm told I've got to do a bit of press about the book. I've done other interviews with magazines when I've been briefed not to answer everything not about the book.

'So [Now] asked me about my mum, my cat, my dog... so I asked her 'Have you actually read the book?'

'We check and the publishers confirmed they have sent the book, so I just said 'Do you want to go away and read it?''

Standing up for herself: When asked if she felt she had handled the situation poorly, Gemma reasoned she was following the rules given to her by her management

Sticking to her guns: Firm in her explanation, she added: 'If I would have been asked about the book I would have told her, and I answered them and that was that'

When asked if she felt she had handled the situation poorly, Gemma reasoned she was following the rules given to her by her management - and just wanted this stint of press to focus on her new project.

'I get all of it, but obviously I'm under strict rules of 'You can't say this. you can't say that.'

Awkward: The same feisty appearance also saw Gemma reveal she had lied about making her sex tape, in a bid to appear funnier during an interview

Leaving the panel confused, Janet Street-Porter then asked why she had confessed to filming a saucy video in the first place.

The piece had not been edited or toned in any way, therefore conveyed Gemma's confusion and anger, and the subsequent stilted moments.

'OK, so you're doing this interview without having done any research or read the book or anything?' she barked tersely, following a brief exchange of pleasantries.

Even a PR stepping in to inform Gemma that only a limited number of copies had been sent out failed to appease her, with the TV personality appearing to get increasingly irate as the interview progressed.

After being asked a simple question about the book's content, the flummoxed reality star said:'Erm… have they given you any stuff from the book? Then you would know… it's going to be hard to do this if you don't know.

'Basically, it's a real fun, fun, fun guide to life and being the best version of you.'

Gemma later attempted to terminate the interview after being asked what part of the book she likes best.

'Well, if you read it you would know, so... I think I'll wait until you get a copy and then you'll be able to embrace the book,' she said.

'It's hard to do an interview if you haven't done any research on the book or been sent it... maybe we'll do this another time.'

The interview immediately went viral, and fans were quick to express their disappointment in Gemma's behaviour across social media.

'Gemma Collins comes across as a needlessly unpleasant person with anger issues in that interview,' wrote one.

While another fumed: 'want to love gemma collins but honestly Wtf is this shes bare f***ing rude and clearly hasnt read the book either ffs.' (sic)

'The best part of this whole Gemma Collins interview thing is that she clearly hasn't read this book either, let alone written it,' added a fourth.
