Countdown viewers are left in stitches as an embarrassed Rachel Riley is forced to spell out a contestant's VERY rude seven-letter word

  • Rachel Riley, 32, was left red-faced on Monday's episode of Countdown
  • The TV presenter had to spell out the word 'penises' during the words round
  • She later poked fun of herself on Twitter with a photo of her embarrassed face

Rachel Riley was left red-faced when another rude word appeared on Countdown yesterday.

The blushing TV presenter, 32, had to spell out 'penises' when a contestant chose it in the letters round of the Channel 4 game show.

Rachel was clearly struggling to keep a straight face as she stood by the word afterwards.

She later poked fun at the embarrassing moment on Twitter by sharing a screenshot of herself smirking.

Contestant Diane and her opponent Toby were tasked with unscrambling the letters 'FSNUEIPSE' in the letters round.

Toby came up with the much more family-friendly 'spines' but Diane won the point with her rude - and longer - answer.

Susie Dent and special guest Paul Zenon smirked in Dictionary Corner as they revealed it was an acceptable word.

There was an awkward silence in the studio as Rachel spelled the word on the board and smirked to the camera.

She later tweeted a picture poking fun of the moment, saying 'a picture paints a thousand words'

She later posted on Twitter about the exchange, writing: 'They say a picture paints a thousand words, but sometimes all you need is 9 letters.'

Her post has since been liked and retweeted more than 6,000 times, and left viewers in stitches.

One tweeted: 'Here Rachel Riley tells people what she really thinks of them in easy to decipher code.'

'Did she actually just give penises as her 7 letter word,' another said, followed by a laughing emoji.

A third posted: 'Shout out to the lady who won the round with PENISES while the guy only got SPINES.'

'The one time I watch Countdown, oh my,' another wrote.

This isn't the first time Rachel has been tasked with spelling out rude words on the Countdown board.

Back in April she spelled out the word 'bumhole' after her own boyfriend Pasha Kovalev suggested it when he was a guest in Dictionary Corner.

Following the broadcast, Rachel took to Twitter to share a snapshot of her dancer beau's efforts, alongside the caption: 'Can't take @PashaKovalev anywhere... This was supposed to be the clean version of the show!'

Earlier this year, Rachel was seen sporting a cheeky grin as she rearranged the Countdown board with a suggestive message.

The word 'squirt' was picked by the show's two contestants on in a letters round with an 'O, K', and 'I' left over on the board.

Seizing the initiative, numbers whizz Rachel stood smiling proudly as she spelled out 'OK I squirt' to the entertainment of viewers.
