Lindsay Lohan reveals her past 'is dead' as she makes future plans to design an island in Dubai

She's known for a challenging history in and out of the spotlight.

But Lindsay Lohan has hopes for a different future as she sat down with The New York Times to detail her life outside of the limelight and in the world of business. 

The 31-year-old former child actress has turned into quite the entrepreneur with the recent opening of Lohan Beach House in Mykonos, Greece, and is hoping to leave her past behind and start anew outside of the United States.

'I'm a normal, nice person,' Lindsay admitted to the publication. 'A good person. I don't have any bad intentions. And my past has to stay in the past.' 

Her sordid past includes multiple arrests in 2007 - both of which accumulated in seven misdemeanors and two counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance which resulted in court-ordered rehab and 36 months of probation, according to CNN. 

'Like, people have to just let go of it and stop bringing it up because it's not — it's gone,' she said. 'It's dead. And that's the most important thing to me.'

The Parent Trap star was later sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating her probation in July 2010 and served only 13 days in prison.  

After a release from prison and a failed drug test in September 2010, Lindsay received an alcohol-monitoring bracelet and checked into the Betty Ford rehab facility, where she remained until January 2011.

She was later charged with felony grand theft (which was later reduced to a misdemeanor), and was arrested in Manhattan after an alleged altercation in 2012.

'I think success is the best revenge — and silence, as a presence,' she said. 'When I chose to change my future, my life, I was like, 'Where's the one place I can find silence?'

She's taken up residences in London and the United Arab Emirates, with plans to continue her legacy throughout Europe.

'There's a business side to my life now, but I'm not in America, so no one knows about it, which is nice for me,' Lohan said. 'Because I get to actually focus on the result of things.'

With a host of projects under her belt for the coming year - including building her own island in Dubai, expanding her European beach clubs and acting roles on the British series Sick Note, Lindsay is feeling more confident than.

'I know who I am as a person,' Lohan said. 'I don't want any judgment on me. You know? My acting is good, my work is good, and I love work.'
