Police said that at least 30 shots were fired at the five family members. They believe it was a revenge attack connected to drug trafficking.

The victims were named as Danila Evelyn Gimenez, 26, her sister Carla Gianella Cisneros, 16, her brother Nahuel Alejandro Cisneros, alias 'Francis', 20, and his girlfriend, Daniela Eliana Figueroa, 22.

The 18-month-old baby boy, whose name has not been released, was rushed by ambulance to the city's Hospital Santamarina of Monte Grande for treatment to an arm injury and is out of danger.

Neighbours described hearing two gunmen burst into the building, shooting and 'breaking everything', while two accomplices waited in a car outside.

All four escaped in the car after the massacre, which occurred in the Esteban Echeverria partido in Buenos Aires.

Police are questioning another brother of the murdered siblings, Gonzalo Cisneros, who has been in prison since December for attempted robbery, in a bid to get to the bottom of the killings.

Officers confirmed they believed the shooting was connected to drug trafficking although none of the deceased had criminal records for drugs offences.

The investigation is ongoing.
