  • Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit Dublin on July 10th and 11th
  • Couple said to be looking forward to experiencing Ireland's 'rich culture'
  • It will be their first official foreign trip as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
  • Couple are making the visit at the request of Her Majesty's Government
  • Will take in Trinity College, Croke Park and the Famine Memorial on the trip
  • Couple expected to attend Prince Louis' christening day before they fly

Meghan and Harry will visit Croke Park, take in the Book of Kells at Trinity College, and sit down with the Taoiseach on their whirlwind trip to Dublin next month, Kensington Palace has revealed.

In their first overseas trip since becoming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the newlyweds will spend two days in Ireland from the 10th July on the request of the UK government.

The Palace said in a statement that Harry and Meghan would spend their time visiting organisations which are 'central to Irish life', including the home of Gaelic football and the country's most famous university.

The couple will also attend a garden party at the British ambassador's residence, and attend official meetings with the Irish president, Michael Higgins, and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

Harry and Meghan, who are expected to attend Prince Louis' christening at St James' Palace the day before they jet to Dublin, are said to be excited to experience the 'rich culture' of Ireland.

A trip to Ireland had been rumoured for the couple following their wedding at Windsor Castle last month.

The pair will spend the two-day visit immersing themselves in the country's heritage.

The Palace said they will visit the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four gospels of the New Testament in Latin, and 'one of Ireland's greatest cultural treasures'.

They will also visit the Famine Memorial, EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum, and DogPatch Labs, a co-working space for technology start-ups.

At DogPatch Labs, Harry and Meghan will meet young people taking part in free coding workshops, as well as female tech entrepreneurs - likely to be of particular interest to the Duchess, who has been outspoken on the topic of female empowerment.

A trip to Ireland had been rumoured for the couple following their wedding at Windsor Castle last month.

Prince Harry's father Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall themselves visited Ireland earlier this month, where they attended a civic reception and toured markets in County Cork.

Ahead of their wedding, Meghan told of her desire to hit the ground running as a working royal, and the new Duchess has been as good as her word.

Days after the wedding the couple joined the royals at a Buckingham Palace garden party to officially mark the 70th birthday of Prince Charles.

Meghan also joined Prince Harry at her first Trooping the Colour, and accompanied the Queen on a whirlwind day of engagements in Cheshire earlier this month.

Join the royal fold in a chic cape dress like the Duchess of Sussex in Givenchy

What does one wear for a joint engagement with the Queen?

It's not a dilemma the rest of us face on a daily basis, but it's a decision the new Duchess of Sussex had to make ahead of her visit to Cheshire earlier this month!

Following on from her Carolina Herrera look at Trooping the Colour, the newlywed got it spot on by choosing Givenchy, the designer label that was of course behind her bridal gown.

We love the elegant simplicity of the nude hue and pencil fit, but it's the layered cape detail that takes this look to another level. When teamed with a black belt, clutch bag and court heels by Sarah Flint, she perfectly complements the Queen in lime green Stewart Parvin.

A possible trip to Ireland for the couple was first mooted back in March, when it was reported that plans were afoot for a series of engagement for the young royals.

The official announcement comes after plans for Harry and Meghan's royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand in the autumn were confirmed.

The couple's trip will coincide with the fourth Invictus Games, which are slated to be held in Sydney in late October.

Harry and Meghan have been invited to Australia and New Zealand by the countries' respective governments, while the royals will visit Fiji and Tonga at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the official statement from Kensington Palace said at the time.

The tour will be a particularly important milestone for the Duchess of Sussex as she settles into her role as one half of one of the world's most talked-about couples.
