Jared Leto set to star in Spider-Man spinoff Morbius... with the actor ALREADY resembling character

He played iconic character The Joker in the DC Comics film Suicide Squad.

And now Jared Leto is set to portray another comic book character in Morbius, a Spider-Man spinoff movie being made by Sony with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa, according to Deadline.

Pictures of the Marvel character reveal that the Panic Room actor already bears an uncanny resemblance to the antihero.

According to the trade publication, Leto 'will play Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who in an attempt to cure a fatal blood disease injects himself with a treatment serum derived from bats.'

After his plan inevitably backfires, the scientist develops 'all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood.'

The sometimes nemesis, sometimes ally of Peter Parker first appeared in Spider-Man comics in the '70s.

But it doesn't mean the Academy Award winner is vacating The Joker role just yet.

Earlier this month, Warner Bros gave the green light to a standalone Joker movie, expanding on Leto interpretation's of him, Variety reported.

The studio announced last fall that it was developing a Joker origin tale with Hangover director Todd Phillips.

Joaquin Phoenix was tapped to play the lead; however Warner insisted Leto's version was not being scrapped.

Instead, Phillips film would fall under a new 'origins' banner which would be completely separate from the established DC cinematic universe.

This in turn would allow different actors take the same roles, but different versions.

There is no production date, and no writer attached as of yet.
