A Turkish athlete has been arrested on suspicion of raping a British holidaymaker on Spain's Costa Dourada.
The unnamed suspect is participating in the Mediterranean Games, an event held every four years between nations around or very close to the Mediterranean Sea.
The 26-year-old was held by local police in Salou just south of the east coast city of Tarragona around 5am on Wednesday morning.
Local reports said he had approached police as they were talking to his 25-year-old alleged victim and insisted she had agreed to sex with him on Salou's Llevant beach after they met in a nightclub.

A different regional police force called the Mossos d'Esquadra has now taken charge of the ongoing investigation which is being headed by an investigating magistrate in Tarragona.
A Mossos spokesman confirmed: 'Local police in Salou arrested a man on suspicion of a sex attack. The incident remains under investigation.'
Salou Town Hall, which employs the local police force which made the arrest, could not be contacted last night.
There was no immediate comment from the Games organising committee.
