Paloma Faith dazzles in sequinned blue dress as she leads the performers at Isle of MTV... after admitting she returned to work after running out of money

Paloma Faith was back on stage as Isle of MTV kicked off in Malta on Wednesday evening, shortly after admitting she cut her maternity leave short and returned to work because she was running out of money.

The British singer, 36, caught the eye in a blue sequinned dress with a daring thigh-high split that revealed her legs as she performing her back catalogue of hits at the annual music festival.

Paloma's vibrant orange hair and deep red lipstick added an extra splash of colour to an already bold look, while strappy heels rounded things off.

Her latest performance comes shortly after she opened up about her personal struggles of parenthood as well as revealing she was forced to cut her maternity leave short due to financial issues, in a candid new interview with the i newspaper.

The Changing hitmaker, who gave birth to her first child with husband Leyman Lahcine in December 2016, said: 'Don't get me wrong, I love my child, but it's hell.

'It doesn't matter how much help you've got, no one can explain how lonely it feels at night when you're waking up breast-feeding and you spend hours just wired on your own and you lose the will to live in a way, because your hormones are going mad and your husband is usually asleep snoring next to you. There's so much resentment.'

The songstress also admitted that she ended her maternity leave early due to her family running out of funds

Paloma, who returned to the studio from maternity leave to make The Architect after she received an urgent call from her accountant, said: 'I'm not well-off. I think it was a combination of wanting to stay relevant but also generating an income.

'My accountant called me and said, you need to think about earning some money now, because otherwise…' [she remembers.] 'I had a little panic.'

Paloma, who made waves when she revealed her child, whose gender she has never revealed, was being raised gender neutral, also spoke about the misconceptions around her parenting.

She said:'I want two or three kids in all and they'll be gender neutral. I just want them to be who they want to be.'

'I wasn't saying 'let's mutilate my child's genitals. I do totally think that people should live as they choose to but I wasn't talking about that.

'I was talking about actually allowing my child to have all the opportunity that they can. Because I was raised like that myself. I was always called a girl but I had Lego and Meccano and I had dolls but I didn't like them so I had the choice.'

Other guests to perform at Isle of MTV on Wednesday evening included Ella Eyre, who took to the stage in a multi-coloured crop top and orange bottoms.

Elsewhere Jason Derulo looked pleased after taking to the stage with a tourpe of scantily clad backing dancers.

Entertaining fans with a lively set, the American star later traded his embellished jacket for a gold metallic chest-piece as his performance got into full swing.

Isle of MTV is an annual music festival. It takes place over the course of several days and is organized by MTV Europe.

The concert has been on going since 2002, popping up in Portugal, France, Spainand Italy. In 2007 it landed in Malta and has remained there ever since.

As a rule, about 50,000 people attend Isle of MTV each year.
