Tormented bear is rescued after eight years in captivity in Ukraine

Kvitka spent most of her eight years in a four-metre square cage being released only for terrifying bear-baiting session where she was chained to a metal poll while dogs harried and attacked her. Her misery, at an isolated hunting station in Ukraine, was compounded by being kept within ear-shot of the packs of huskies that were bred to attack her for sport. Her home 'had been little more than a prison and she suffered repeated injuries in the dog attacks,' the head of the Four Paws charity said.

A female singer in Saudi Arabia has recorded a hilarious rap song from the seat of her car to celebrate the end of the country's driving ban for women. The rap song, entitled We Are Driving, has gone viral and shows singer Leesa A rapping while she takes the steering wheel, sits on the bonnet and pokes her head through the sun roof.  In the video she says she has 'no need for taxis' with the driving ban lifted and says she can drive herself for the first time.  

EU leaders reach migration deal after marathon talks in Brussels

The German Chancellor had been given an ultimatum from her hardline coalition partners to find a Europe-wide solution to the migrant crisis - or risk seeing her government fall apart. But the 63-year-old emerged this morning after nine hours of 'toxic' negotiations to reveal a 'joint text' which included moves to stop migrants registered in Italy and other EU countries from moving on to Germany. Merkel said this afternoon that Greece and Spain had now agreed to take back in future migrants previously registered in those countries who are picked up at the German-Austrian border. It comes three years after she opened Germany's doors to nearly a million refugees. Israel rushes to secure its border and 'prevent entry of refugees'

The UK-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said today that most of the refugees are heading towards the border with Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. A senior Israeli minister said refugees gathering at the Golan frontier must be prevented from crossing into Israel. Jordan, already hosting some 650,000 Syrian refugees, also says its border will remain closed to more refugees. Syrian government forces backed by Russian air power have turned their focus to the rebel-held southwest since defeating the last remaining insurgent pockets near the cities of Damascus and Homs. Israel's military said it delivered about 60 tons of humanitarian aid and medicine to thousands of displaced Syrians in the Golan Heights who flocked to the area, fleeing heavy bombardment by Syrian government forces. Teenagers across France will be made to serve for one month, with a focus on civic service as well as military training, with an option to extend the placement of up to a year.

The 26-year-old Turkish suspect was held by local police in Salou just south of the east coast Spanish city of Tarragona around 5am on Wednesday morning.
