They have made the conscious decision to keep their marriage out of the spotlight and rarely talk about their private life.

But real-life spouses Penelope Cruz, 44, and Javier Bardem, 49, get seriously up close and personal in new movie Loving Pablo, as the pair set pulses racing with a steamy romp scene.

The Blow actress is pressed against a window as she enjoys a moment of passion with Javier in the flick, which hones in on Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar's four-year affair with journalist Virginia Vallejo.

Javier, who portrays the famous drugs baron, is shown ardently kissing Penelope's neck, before the camera pans down to show him lifting her dress.

And Penelope is no less immersed in the raunchy scene as she smears her hands and face against the window, before tilting back to rest her head against Javier's shoulder.

Penelope swaps her trademark brown tresses for curled red locks in the movie and sports an elaborate puffball frock as she depicts the glamorous reporter.

Speaking previously about their relationship, Javier - who met the Spanish actress while filming 2008 movie Vicky Christina Barcelona - admitted he thought twice about pursuing a relationship with Penelope because of her fiery demeanour.

He told GQ magazine: 'Oh, boy. She has that feistiness. There are those scenes where we are arguing, she's throwing plates and so on.

'I had to wonder, ''Do I really want this?'' She has what I call the loving blood. Passion for everything.'

But Javier - who also hails from Spain - was unable to resist Penelope's passionate personality, gushing that it is what makes her both beautiful and sexy.

He enthused: 'That's what I find attractive. There is beauty and there is being sexy. Penelope has both.'

The couple eventually tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in the Bahamas in 2010, before welcoming children Leo, seven, and Luna, four.
