Eddie Murphy pictured in full 1970s garb on set of new movie Dolemite Is My Name

Actor Eddie Murphy has been known to embody the classic characters he has played over the last four decades.

On Wednesday, The Nutty Professor comedian was spotted on the set in Los Angeles filming a scene for his new movie in full 1970's garb.

And from the looks of it, he is owning the role of comedian Rudy Ray Moore in the upcoming Netflix biopic Dolemite Is My Name.

In the scene, Eddie wore a classic but edgy 1970's tuxedo.

The colorful ensemble included: white marching-band pants with a black stripe down the side of the legs, a white ruffled tuxedo shirt, a bright yellow and black jacket, white shoes and, for an added touch of funky, a red bow-tie and red cummerbund.

And to complete the look, Eddie was styled with longer hair and some thick sideburns that were quite in vogue back in the 70's.

Rudy Ray Moore was best known for his larger than life personality and raunchy, x-rated comedy routines. His best known creation was an iconic pimp named Dolemite, who appeared in his stand-up routine and eventually in a series of blaxploitation films in the 1970's.

Dolemite films were unapologetically vulgar, to an extent, that some local record stores refused to sell Moore’s films. So rather than work the mainstream circuit, Moore turned his focus to the underground.

The upcoming biographical-drama also stars Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Tituss Burgess and T.I. Harris.

Craig Brewer, of Hustle & Flow fame, is directing from a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Big Eyes, Ed Wood).

So far there is no word on when the movie will hit theaters.

Murphy was last seen in the 2016 drama Mr. Church. His extensive and iconic resume includes the films: 48 Hours, Trading Places and the Beverly Hills Cop franchise as well as his four year run on Saturday Night Live.

He was ranked #10 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.

The 57-year old has been dating actress Paige Butcher, 39, since 2012.

He was previously married to Nicole MItchell Murphy from 1993-2006. He has also been romantically linked to Rocsi Diaz, Tracey Edmonds, Whitney Houston and Melanie Brown, who is better known as Mel B. from the Spice Girls.
