As public figures they're used to being in the spotlight, but Monaco's royals looked like a normal happy family on a fun day out this week.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene joined their three-year-old twins to celebrate the country's culture at the Prince's Palace.

The family were celebrating the 1st Meeting of the Grimaldi of Monaco Historic Sites, an event that showcased traditions and customs from different regions in Monaco - from medieval combats to folklore and dance performances.

Princess Gabriella stole the show in a traditional red dress, while her brother Prince Jacques cut an adorably dapper figure in a sharp suit.

Also dressing up was Pierre Casiraghi, son of Caroline, Princess of Hanover and Prince Albert's nephew, who wore a knight's costume to stage a fight scene at the event.

The event saw the former 'fiefs' (representatives) of the Grimaldi of Monaco welcomed at a meeting held under the pines in the palace.

Guests were shown the culinary and cultural traditions of the ancient fiefs, and events included dancing, drawing and puppet shows.

Princess Charlene, 40, looked chic in a black and white striped sleeveless dress, that featured a daring thigh-high split on the side.

The Zimbabwe-born born royal dressed for the sun with a pair of black sandals and kept her sunglasses perched on her head as the family took in the event.

Charlene and Albert tied the knot in 2011 after five years together, going public with their relationship at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

Prince Albert is the son of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III of Monaco.
