‘I feel guilty about it’: TV presenter Stacey Solomon reveals she REGRETS her decision to have her son circumcised as a baby
- Stacey Solomon, 28, has wrestled with decision to circumcise her son
- Jewish star said on Loose Women she did it because it was part of her culture
- Mother of two said she has experienced guilt over the decision as time went on
- Made remarks during a debate about piercing the ears of babies
Stacey Solomon has revealed her regret over having her son circumcised as a baby.
The TV presenter and mother of two, 28, who is Jewish, said she believed at the time that circumcision was in the best interests of her son because it would be 'cleaner'.
Stacey is mum to Zachary, ten, and Leighton, six. She did not specify which of her two boys she was referring to.
The former X Factor contestant made her remarks on Loose Women, as the panelists discussed whether it was acceptable for parents to pierce their babies' ears, before they themselves were old enough to have a say in it.
As Stacey, who had her first child at 19, said that as she grew older 'I started feeling guilty about what I'd done and whether it was the right thing to do.'
Male circumcision, the surgical removal of the foreskin, is common practice in the Jewish and Islamic communities.
Speaking on Loose Women, Stacey Solomon 28, who is Jewish, said she regrets getting her son circumcised
The panel were discussing whether it is wrong to have babies' ears pierced, following the news that Khloe Kardashian has had her two-month-old daughter True's pierced.
Jane Moore said she only agrees with the practice if it is part of the parents' culture, to which Stacey replied: 'When my son was circumcised I had that exact discussion with everybody who thought there was something wrong with it.
'It was part of my culture, it was something that I was told was better for the child, cleaner... but as I've got older [I've realised] my cultural views don't make it different to what it actually is,' Stacey said, suggesting that parents should consider the reality of such a decision, rather than making it automatically for cultural reasons.
Stacey is mum to Zachary, ten, and Leighton, six, though she didn't say which child she was talking about.
Stacey disagreed with Jane Moore and argued that culture isn't an excuse to get babies circumcised
The mum-of-two then admitted that she has since wrestled with the decision she made after having her baby.
She said: 'I actually started feeling guilty about what I'd done and whether it was the right thing to do, but there's nothing I can do about it now.
'At the time I believed absolutely it was in my child's best interests and was done with the best heart. It's funny how we can excuse certain things because of cultural reasons.'
Also on today's Loose Women Stacey argued that problem periods should be an acceptable excuse for being late.
The panel were discussing the news that Labour minister Danielle Rowley, the MP for Midlothian in Scotland, had announced she was on her period in the House of Commons, which had made her late.
Stacey said: 'If I had a migraine I could ring up work and they would happily say ''Don’t come in it’s not worth it, get yourself better.''
Stacey said she feels 'guilty' about making the decision but knows she can't undo it
On today's show Stacey also said that periods are a reasonable excuse for being late to work
She recently revealed that she is homeschooling her sons because she thought mainstream school was harming her eldest son's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning
'If I came on my period and had excruciating period pains or leaked through and had to get changed and that made me late, it’s still something I can’t control that’s happening to me so why wouldn’t it be a good enough excuse?'
Earlier this year Stacey revealed that she is homeschooling her sons, a decision she admitted that not everyone would agree with.
She told The Sun that she has been homeschooling Zachary and Leighton since September, after becoming concerned that mainstream schooling was harming her eldest son's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
