Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC is given official release date... and it will coincide with tenth anniversary of original series' very first episode

Sons of Anarchy viewers were left devastated when the show aired its final episode back in December 2014.

But fans needn't mourn the loss any longer as show-makers have finally announced the release date for the show's spin-off series, Mayans MC.

The new series, which was confirmed back in January, will hit screens on September 4, a debut that will coincide with the tenth anniversary of Sons of Anarchy's very first episode.

The show, which is the work of SOA creator Kurt Sutter and writer Elgin James, will first air on FX in the States.

The ten-part series is set in the same fictional world as Sons of Anarchy and deals with the Mayans Motorcycle Club, the rivals-turned-allies of Jax Teller's SAMCRO.

Succeeding Charlie Hunnam, Jorge Daniel 'J. D.' Pardo boasts the leading role, playing former golden boy EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border.

Set two-and-a-half years after the events that occurred in SOA, EZ, the gifted son of a proud Latino family, has just been released from prison and will now seek vengeance on those who crushed his American dream with cartel violence.

The trailer, released earlier this year, showed the infamous biker gang riding through the desert to a Spanish cover of the Rolling Stones' legendary track Paint it Black.

Speaking ahead of the series' debut to The Hollywood Reporter, FX resident of original programming Nick Grad enthused: 'Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller and Mayans MC has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style.

'Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James and this amazing cast, Mayans MC builds on the legacy of Sons of Anarchy, taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.'

Kurt has already hinted that Mayans MC will be one of three Sons of Anarchy spin-offs, recently admitting he envisioned the series as one of four chapters.

During an interview on the Tom Arnold podcast 100% Honest… Pretty Much, he explained the original SOA seasons were chapter one and Mayans MC was chapter two - leaving room for upcoming seasons to represent further chapters.
