A pub landlady's touching response after a father asked if his disabled son's behaviour would be tolerated has gone viral.

Steph Tate, 29, shared a heartwarming message to a disabled boy's father, and has since won over thousands of online fans after she welcomed them into her Sheffield pub.

The father, whose son uses a wheelchair, was concerned the pair would be sent away from The Barrel Chapeltown if the boy were to wave his arms or make loud noises.

At first she said she was initially confused by the request on Sunday, June 24.

However rather than turning them away, Ms Tate was determined to make the pair feel welcome.

She said: 'I was heartbroken that in today's day and age somebody would feel they have to ask that.

'It happened after the England match and we had a few parents in the pub with their kids.

'I was confused and asked why wouldn't it be, but he said his son would sometimes make loud noises and wave his arms.

'He seemed nervous waiting on my response which broke my heart - it must be devastating for a parent to be treated in such a way.

She said: 'The man mentioned that he had been out with his family a few weeks previously and people were making comments about wanting to just come out for a quiet meal.

'I told him he was of course welcome and anyone who made a comment about him would be told to leave instead.'

Ms Tate shared the story on her pub's Facebook page, where it has since received almost 2,000 reactions and shared 840 times.

It reads: 'If you're sat at home with a disabled child, partner or friend and feel on edge about taking them anywhere due to fear of someone making comments please feel free to bring them here.

'If I find anyone making negative comments or being disrespectful they will be asked to leave not you'.

People have come out in their droves to support the landlady's message - with some even as far as the US, Korea and Germany.

'The response I received was overwhelming - I couldn't believe the number of notifications by phone had the next day.

'It is lovely to read and nice to see that kind of support and hope that this encourages a positive message to others.'
