A young child has died after being catapulted '20 feet into the air' when a bouncy castle 'exploded' on a packed beach in Norfolk. The girl suffered a cardiac arrest and panicked eyewitnesses summoned ambulances when the child was thrown from a bouncy castle at Gorleston beach.     Witnesses described hearing 'the most enormous bang' and saw the girl 'catapulted' into the air before emergency services tried desperately to keep her alive with CPR. The girl, reported to have been four years old, was taken to the James Paget Hospital, where she died.

South Wales Police have issued a 'sincere apology' and admitted that the victim was let down by them following the publication of a damning Independent Police Complaints Commission report. Redoine Faid (left), 46, broke out of the prison (bottom right) in Reau in the city's southeastern suburbs within minutes, sources close to the case said, explaining he had been helped by three heavily armed men. It is the second time Faid has pulled off a spectacular jailbreak - in 2013, he blasted his way out of a prison in northern France using dynamite before being recaptured six weeks later. According to news channel BFM-TV, the breakout was pulled off while Faid was in the prison's visiting room at about 11.30am local time. Three armed and well-trained men then reportedly presented themselves and demanded Faid's release. They then managed to whisk him away in a helicopter (top right). According to France 3, the pilot of the helicopter is an instructor waiting for a lesson to begin when he was taken hostage by the men. The aircraft landed in Garges-lès-Gonesse, about 37 miles from the prison. They were then picked up in a black Renault car before switching to a white van.

The Defense Department is looking at a large scale withdrawal of US troops from Germany after growing tensions between President Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.  The Washington Post reports that Trump was taken aback by the number of US troops in the country, which is currently around 35,000 and is said to have complained that other countries were not paying enough to NATO. Some European officials are said to alarmed at the possibility of US troop movements and wonder whether it is merely a negotiating tactic ahead of a NATO summit in Brussels.

Asia Argento continues to mourn the death of her boyfriend celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain by sharing a mix of quotes and photos to Instagram. The Italian singer and actress took to Instagram Saturday evening to share an image of her shorts that spell out 'Epic Loser' on the back pockets with the caption: 'F*** you all'. She followed up Sunday morning with a naked photo showing off her slender figure writing: 'I love you'. The Italian singer has actively shared her grief on social media following the death of Bourdain. The food critic died on June 8 after committing suicide in his hotel room in France, where he was filming an episode of his hit show Parts Unknown. Last week, Argento was praised for performing her song Gloria at a concert hall in France, two weeks following Bourdain's death.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms - the first such advisory since the service was introduced. Forecasters said storms may develop and bring torrential rain, hail and lightning to places in south-west England and Wales on Sunday. The yellow warning runs from 6am to 10pm, while the heatwave is set to continue for the rest of the weekend. The warm weather has sparked a boom in wine production at the nation's vineyards (pictured, Denbies Vineyard in Surrey).

Bisterne Estate in Ringwood, Hampshire, produces seed barley, milling wheat and biscuit rye, and began harvesting their 750 acres of arable land on June 28, two weeks earlier than normal. Farm manager Martin Button says this is the earliest harvest there since 1976. However, they are expecting a significantly reduced yield as the barley grain is much smaller than in a typical year, which was been attributed to the dry summer. Two men opened fire with a pistol from ten yards away as the 34-year-old translator, known as Ricky (pictured centre right) returned home in his car in the Afghan capital of Kabul, hitting the vehicle four times (bullet damage circled right). Ricky jumped clear and ran inside his house to get his own weapon. One bullet hit the seat where seconds earlier he had been sitting. He said: 'I was very lucky. Someone was trying to kill me - I believe it was the Taliban or Islamic State because of my work for the British forces. I ran inside for my shotgun and fired two shots into the air. I then went to my roof to see if I could see them but witnesses who saw the attack said the men disappeared at the end of the road. It is very worrying as it was clearly a targeted attack on me.' The Mail's Betrayal of the Brave campaign has highlighted the plight of Ricky and others who have been denied sanctuary in Britain after helping our Armed Forces. Under a UK Government relocation scheme, interpreters need to have served for at least a year in Helmand, where the worst fighting was.
Ricky does not qualify because he did not work in the province, even though he has served with our troops for 16 years.

They're the creme-de-la creme of the British film industry.  And Matt Smith and Eddie Redmayne couldn't resist having a catch-up as they took their respective partners to the second day of the Audi Polo Challenge at Coworth Park in Ascot on Sunday.  Matt's girlfriend Lily James, 29, looked effortlessly glamorous in a chic floral dress, while Eddie's wife Hannah dressed her incredible figure in a floaty white summer dress. 

Tom Wright met Lucian Freud (pictured in 2001 right) while he was working as an apprentice plasterer and sign painter in Suffolk in the 1930s. After crossing paths at a pub Freud convinced his new acquaintance to join him at his nearby art school, where Wright had his fees waived in exchange for handyman tasks. As the Second World War rumbled on canvases were in short supply and it appears Wright found one of Freud's paintings (pictured bottom left) and simply went over it to create one of his pub signs (top left). After the Freud landscape underneath was discovered it was put up for auction and is expected to sell for £30,000 next week.

Bagpuss and Clangers co-creator Peter Firmin has died at the age of 89 after a short illness. The British artist and puppet maker died at home in Kent and leaves behind his wife Joan and six daughters, as well as his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his co-creators, Mr Firmin brought joy to generations of children with his skilfully-crafted animated creations. Among his most famous creations were childhood favourites such as The Clangers, Bagpuss, Basil Brush and Ivor The Engine. His death was announced in a statement from Clangers's production company Coolabi.

Christina Rickardsson's childhood bears resemblance to the Disney classic the Jungle Book, growing up in a cave in the jungle of Brazil, though what she describes is far from a fairy tale. The 35-year-old (pictured left and with street children in Brazil right) has revealed she hunted birds to survive and was chased by jaguars. But her life all changed when she was adopted by a middle-class Swedish family in 1991.

Riot police in Turkey fired tear gas and beat some of the LGBTI activists who gathered for a Pride march in Istanbul on Sunday - despite authorities banning the event for the fourth year in a row. Around 1,000 people gathered near Istiklal Avenue and Taksim Square where organisers had wanted to originally hold the parade. They chanted slogans and waved rainbow flags on side streets along Istiklal Avenue, Istanbul's main pedestrian thoroughfare. But they were forced to move from street to street for an hour as police tried to end an event the local government had banned for the fourth year in a row. Officers patrolled with dogs and had water cannons stationed nearby. They fired tear gas on groups in some areas and were seen elsewhere pushing and shouting at participants who were too slow to scatter.

Devastated Stuart Bishop issued the stark reminder after his wife Paula (pictured together) died on the first day of their holiday to Fuerteventura last year. During the day Mrs Bishop drank a few small beers, two glasses of wine and four Irish coffees - the equivalent of around 15 units of alcohol. This made her around eight-times over the drink driving limit in Spain. An inquest into her death earlier this month found Mrs Bishop, 37, died from alcohol posioning after unknowingly drinking a 'fatally toxic amount' on the first day of their holiday.

King Philippe, 58, and Queen Mathilde, 45, (pictured together left and with children right) cut a more casual figure than usual as they toured Villers Abbey in Belgium this week. Nick Dale, from London, fought off hundreds of entries from all over the world to win the 'In the Wild' picture contest run by the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers. He said: 'The journey upstream sometimes covers hundreds of miles, and the fish must leap out of the water to get over waterfalls. When the bear is at the right place at the right time, dinner is served. This brown bear with shaggy, brown fur is about to catch a salmon in its mouth at the top of Brooks Falls, Alaska. The fish is only a few inches away from its gaping jaws. It did end up as dinner.'

John Boyle-Matcham, 23, steered his father's car into the path of Jamie Clarke's Gilera Runner 125 scooter in Watford last year. Mr Clarke was lucky not to have been killed or paralysed. Boyle-Matcham was jailed for 13 years for the August bank holiday Monday crash, which one person described as looking 'like a war movie' when Mr Clarke's legs appeared to be almost 'severed'. Mr Clarke, now 21, spent two weeks in intensive care being treated for brain seizures and fractures before spending a total of two months at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

The most dedicated supporters were spotted as early as 6.20pm on Friday evening, nearly three whole days before the competition begins on Monday at 11.30am. By midnight on Friday, a larger gathering had appeared, with more than a dozen enthusiasts camping outside Wimbledon's courts in southwest London. Pictures taken today show a much bigger crowd of fans assembled in long lines with tents, camping chairs and cool bags. It comes after Andy Murray admitted there remains a possibility he could still withdraw from the competition.

The visit has been seen as emphasising North Korea's economic ties with China, its biggest trading partner and backer. Among the dictator's entourage was Kim Song-nam, who is considered an expert on China. Kim reportedly said: 'We shouldn't settle for the past success but aim higher and continue developing.'

Muhammad Ali's former estate in Berrien Springs, Michigan, comes with two houses and features a steam room, massage room, basketball court and boxing ring. Ali both lived and boxed in one of the homes, which his family reportedly bought in 1975, 10 years before he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Once known as the 'Louisville Lip' for his brashness, Ali used the home in his later years to have some serenity from the intensity of fame.

Four people were arrested amid the violence on Saturday, which broke out when the pro-Trump group's scheduled march encountered an opposing group associated with a second nearby rally. Neither rally was directly related to President Donald Trump's immigration policy, which drew peaceful protests elsewhere in Portland and across the country on Saturday. Police said four people were transported to area hospitals by ambulance, three with non serious injuries and one with a serious but non-life threatening injury. One police officer also suffered what was believed to be a non-serious and non-life-threatening injury as a result of being struck by a projectile.
