A photo of the Duchess of Sussex engaged in a sweet exchange with a little girl at the polo has sparked a frenzy among royal fans - who say it proves Meghan will be a 'wonderful mother' to her own future children.

Meghan, 36, was snapped at the Audi Polo Challenge in Ascot, Berkshire, on Saturday, where she was cheering on her husband Prince Harry, 33, and his brother, the Duke of Cambridge.

At one point the Duchess, casually dressed in a summer dress, tan sandals and her favourite panama hat, crouched down to put herself at the same height as the little girl - understood to be Mark Dyer's daughter, Isabella - and held her hands as they talked.

The picture was shared on Instagram by royal fan account @Meghanandherprince, which has more than 160,000 followers, and has had thousands of likes from fellow admirers - including one who said: 'I love how she is always bending down to meet the child's eye level - says a lot about her.'

Go chic in check like The Duchess of Sussex in a Shoshanna shirt dress

The Duchess of Sussex was ready for a day of fun in the sun when she attended the Audi Polo Challenge in England to cheer on her husband Prince Harry.

She dressed casually chic in a sleeveless frock by Shoshanna that she teamed with a pair of leather sandals by Sarah Flint (buy below) and accessorized with a fedora and dark sunglasses.

The gingham pattern that covered Meghan's dress was perfect for summer and we also adore the eyelet cutouts. Sadly this style has now sold out online, but Shopbop has the latest from the brand so click right to check it out now.

Then head to the edit below for a healthy dose of alternative gingham picks from the likes of Christopher Kane, Modern American Designer and Adeam.

'I love how she is with children,' another wrote. 'They'll [Meghan and Harry] make great parents.'

'She's always so gracious with children,' another fan of the Duchess wrote beneath the post, echoed by a fellow admirer who said: 'Meghan will make a wonderful mother when the time comes.'

The fan account named the little girl chatting to the Duchess as Isabella Dyer, daughter of Mark Dyer, a former Welsh Guards Officer and equerry to Prince Charles who shares an exceptionally close bond with Prince Harry.

Jasper Dyer, Mark's six-year-old son with wife Amanda, is Harry's godson and served as a page boy at the royal wedding on May 19th.

Both Meghan and Harry, who exchanged vows less than two months ago on a sunny spring Saturday at Windsor Castle, have hinted at their desire to start a family.

When the then engaged couple made an official visit to Belfast in March they were given a tour of start-up business hub in east Belfast's regenerated docklands, where they met the couple behind Shnuggle, a range of baby products.

When Adam and Sinead Murphy told the couple they could have one of their non-slip baby baths free of charge, Prince Harry quipped: 'How many have you got?'

A laughing Meghan then chimed in with: 'I'm sure at some point we'll need the whole [lot].'

Prince Harry in particular is said to be keen to have children as soon as possible, according to royal author Katie Nicholl, who previously told Entertainment Tonight the 33-year-old hoped they would start a family 'soon after the royal wedding'.

'Meghan is very doting with children,' she said in March.

'She is very maternal and she was thrilled to meet George and Charlotte.'

Both Prince George and his little sister Princess Charlotte were part of Meghan's bridal party at the royal wedding, as were many of the former actress' close friends' children.

The Duchess is godmother to Remi, six, and Rylan Litt, seven, daughters of her close friend Benita Litt.

Meghan was joined by tennis star Serena Williams and her internet tycoon husband Alexis Ohanian at the polo on Saturday.

The newlyweds returned to Coworth Park for the second day running yesterday, with the off-duty Duchess casually dressed in a white shirt, black jeans and flats to take in the action on the field.

Their day out fell on what would have been Harry's mother, Diana's, 57th birthday.
