She was ridiculed for slurring her words during a This Morning interview ten years ago, as she battled bipolar disorder.

And Kerry Katona, 37, has opened up about how the backlash affected her, confessing she almost killed herself.

In an interview with the Daily Star, the former Atomic Kitten star, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2005, said: 'It's taken me 10 years from that This Morning interview where I was slurring my words due to my bipolar medication... look this is serious f****** s***.'

'I was that close to taking my own life because of that interview... because I was so judged by it.

'Now I want to be the voice for mental health so people don't feel ashamed or embarrassed... we just need to talk to people.'

The star explained that one tool she used to help herself are motivational tapes, and is conducting talks on mental health.

Kerry became emotional on Daybreak in 2012, as she re watched the clip: 'She looks so lost. That's not me.

'That was pure medication. I was in a really unhappy marriage. I was taking a lot of class A drugs because I was depressed and I had nobody to blame but myself.

'I held my hands up and until you reach rock bottom, the only way is up.'

Kerry's caption read: 'Check out my little man and he¿s awesome muscles! He¿s been training so hard bless him he wants to be a bodybuilder [sic]!'

Speaking of infamous 2009 interview with This Morning's Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby last year, she said: 'It was eight years ago I was on the famous couch, slurring... Even now, I have episodes where I talk a million miles an hour and then I slow down.'

She continued: 'There's no harm in asking for that kind of help... Since that infamous interview I'm still mocked... Yes, I've done the drinks thing and the drug thing, but it was pure medication [that I had taken].'
